Skylar Sinclair Interview

Today I am speaking with Skylar Sinclair.

Hi Skylar! And welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews! It is great to have you with us. Thank you for taking time out of your workday to answer some questions. The readers are anxious to learn something about Skylar Sinclair.
Thank you so much for having me, Linda. This is such a treat for me.

Skylar, I absolutely adore your webpage. It is truly awesome and you have some new books contracted, too. Wow, I bet you are excited, just like your readers who wait in anticipation for your stories to be released.
Thank you for such a great compliment, Linda. My site, believe it or not, cost only $5.00 to purchase. I have to customize it myself, but it shows that you don’t have to spend a lot to have a professional looking site.

Would you like to discuss, Sex Slave or perhaps upcoming The Stud Farm?
Sex Slave was an anomaly to be truthful. I am not a big fan of horror. Yet, Stella Price came to me and asked if I thought I could write a dark, horror type story with or without erotic elements. Just that quick, a storyline popped into my head. Let’s have a woman who finds an ankle in a truck that used to be her grandmother’s that has passed away, and that ankle will be her ultimate downfall.

It took me about eight hours to write. When Sex Slave was released, I did not have much expectation about its appeal. I figured it would die a quick and quiet death. WRONG!

The first week on Fictionwise Sex Slave was sitting at #8 and a bestseller in erotica out of 2,300 other books. The great thing and most memorable was the day it was shown as a bestseller, happen to also be my birthday. Now that is an author’s best birthday present. Sex Slave has sold well over 200 copies since its release and is still one of my bestsellers. Go figure?

The Stud Farm is another one of those books that flew out of my head and onto paper in a matter of two days. It is my very first contemporary that happens to also be a M/M. I wrote The Stud Farm specifically for Phaze’s Fury HeatSheet line. It was contracted back in December, so I had to wait until the official announcement February 1, 2007 before I could say anything. Which as an author was trying, but I did it.

Is there anything that inspires you or motivates you to take pen in hand and start cranking out stories?
I have this affinity for words, so writing seemed a natural course for me. I starting out reviewing (and still am) for about two years, then one day, I though I would try my hand at writing. Story ideas flowed like water for me. The need to write them is almost like an addiction. As soon as I finish one, another story is waiting to be written. I usually have at least two stories or more started at all times.

While writing, how does the story develop for you? Do you go from start to finish or create scenes as they come to you?
I am one of those authors that have to have the beginning and ending written, before I can fill in the middle. I write totally by the seat of my pants, never really knowing where the characters will lead me until I get there.

Which is your favorite genre to read?
I seem to lean toward paranormal. I live in the real world and penning something otherworldly seems to appeal to me. Creating unique and erotic realms for my characters to kick ass in works best for me. My characters are totally alpha in nature, so they keep me on my toes.

What book have you read that left a strong impression you will never forget?
That is an easy one, The Lover by Robin Schone. I have read that book about five times and I still am moved each time I read it. Ms. Schone is one of the greatest erotic authoresses of our time. The passion and pain that Michael shows to the world is heartfelt. His scars are physical as well as mental. Even with the horror of his life growing up, his erotic forte of being a male prostitute works to not only help him, but the lonely life of a spinster named Anne Aimes. The story is just brilliant. I also recommend the sequel called Gabriel’s Woman.

Do you find it hard to choose names for your characters?
Funny you mention that. One of the easiest things about writing is naming my characters. They tell me right off the bat what they want to be named. I wish the rest of it came that easily to me.

How do you feel about having your own books reviewed and what value, if any, do you get from them?
I value all book reviews. I understand the time and personal sacrifice a reviewer makes. Reviewers do not get paid for the time and effort they put into each review. Their only compensation is a free book and hopefully a thank you from the author when they are done. If they are lucky, a part of their review is quoted. So I am very respectfully and appreciative when it comes to each and every review one of my books receives.

If you could go back in time, where would you go and when? What is one thing you would want to take with you?
I love the eighteen hundreds. There were so many wonderful inventions, brilliant minds and history during that time period. I would not take a thing from our time. I would not want to spoil what would be inevitable for the future.

Do you think there is a perfect man? What do you look for in a man to make him totally complete in every way?
I think there is a perfect man for every woman, but really the perfection of the equation is how well two different individuals mesh. Each balancing out the other’s faults and imperfections, making them a perfect match.

What would your readers be surprised to learn about Skylar?
Before I started reviewing and writing, I competed in digital art. I am now the senior/head cover artist for Mardi Gras Publishing.

Congrats to you, Skylar!

Do you have a habit that you know you will never change?
Yep, eating chocolate. A habit that I love

Do you have any pet peeves that you would like to share?
One that stands out and I get laughed at the most, is my obsession with having everything neat and tidy when I am at a restaurant. The napkins, utensils, glassware and whatever is in front of me has to be just so. I will arrange it until it satisfies me. Now that is totally asinine, but it is just my pet peeve.

Do you have a website other than www.skylarsinclair.com that you would like to share with your readers?
I have a few. I am the co-owner of Essence of Erotica with Stella Price. It is a site with a wonderful group of award-winning and bestselling authors as members. We have a large webring that anyone in the erotic field can join. Essence of Erotica is also a great place for new and not so new authors to find information pertaining to the crafting and promotion in the erotic field of writing. We have listing for publishers, review sites, and a monthly newsletter. Anyone can join the newsletter by subscribing here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Essenceoferoticanewsletter

I also started last year a Yahoo group called Erotic Excerpts. It is a loop that writers, readers, artists, and publishers can post at without censorship, as long as it pertains to erotica. We have a winning cover picked each week and they get to have their cover on the front of the site for the entire week as well as a free animated banner. The group is growing by leaps and bounds and I hope more people come to learn, read wonderfully crafted erotic excerpts, win free books, and just hang out. The atmosphere is laidback and fun. The link to join: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/eroticexcerpts

Where would you classify as your most romantic place to visit?
Romantic to me is any place as long as you are with the one you love. You could be at a nearby hotel or on an exotic island. Either one would be romantic.

If you could be anyone famous for one day, who would you choose?
There are so many people I would like to be to and choosing just one would be too hard.
