Anisa Damien Interview

Hello Anisa Damien and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It is good to have Anisa with us this morning. We are anxious to hear about Anisa Damien and her books.

I noticed on your website that you have quite a list of books. Why not open the floor by telling us something about your most recent release? Would that be all right with you?
Sure, Linda! My newest release is called Scarlet Ties: Taste, available by Changeling Press and features twin vampire brothers who own an erotic hotel, where every sensual delight is offered.

Tell us Anisa, what is a typical day like for you?
Well, I recently started a new writing schedule that has me up at 4:30am and I write for about an hour to an hour and a half before getting my son up and rushing off to my day job. I write again, during my lunch break and if time is on my side, again in the evening.

What does your working space look like?
My desk is actually a long section of wood, propped up by two mountain piles of books, a chair, printer, and a lounging chair with pillows and candles.

When you begin your stories, do you do an outline or just start writing as the mood strikes?
I usually have a premise or an idea for a character and start from there. Sometimes, I’m lucky and one of the main characters will be talkative.

Do you dive right into your characters and become a part of the story?
Sometimes. Characters can be very stubborn and are often like puzzles. At times they offer you pieces of their lives one by one and sometimes, they come to you so clear it’s like you’ve known them forever.

From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
My son. I’d like to leave a legacy to him that if you follow your dreams, good things do happen!

Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
Spending time with my son, and going to the bookstore to people watch and drink lattes – it’s very peaceful and inspiring.

What is your favorite part of writing?
Playing the never ending what-if game. There’re so many scenarios and trouble that you can get your characters into.

What about your least favorite part?
Deadlines.

Do you miss your characters when you are finished with their tale?
Sometimes, but often I have another set of characters begging to have their day.

Any character that you wish you could write about again?
Nicolas Herrera, from Herrera’s Temptation. He is my all time favorite. A man filled with passion and honor.

Every writer dreams about receiving “the call”. What were you doing when yours came in?
I had just arrived back from a outing with my family and checked my email to find an acceptance letter from a publisher. I was ecstatic and remember actually crying. It was a good feeling.

Did you do anything special to celebrate your new contract?
I had plenty of wine!

Do you have any unfinished projects sitting around?
Tons, I can’t count them all
