Missy Lyons Interview

Fallen Angel Reviews would like to welcome author Missy Lyons. Thanks for chatting with us today.

Please tell us about your latest book.
I have two very recent books that I have completed. Closing the Deal is about to be released from Phaze April 2007 as an e-book. It is about a real estate attorney that gets revenge on a millionaire playboy in the sexiest way possible.

Blood Ties is my first ever vampire love story. It is so new that I don’t have a release date yet. I just signed the contract and expect to see it available around the summer of 2007 as an e-book. Now this isn’t your everyday love story. Priscilla is determined to get revenge on the vampire that made her. She was so determined, that she made repeated attempts on William’s life. After she went to the vampire slayer for help, William decided once and for all to finally end this.

How do we find out about you and your books?
I have a website that I try and keep updated about what I am writing and will be releasing in the near future. You can visit my website www.missylyons.com. I plan on being loyal to my two e-publishers Phaze, and Mardi Gras Publishing. So you should be able to see most of my novellas available there in the near future.

What can we expect from you in the future?
Expect anything and everything. I write magic, seduction and fantasy. I want to write more paranormal and fantasy. I have several works in progress that keep changing as the voices intensify for me.

Bound By Desire is another contemporary romance that I expect to be released by Phaze this summer. It is also considered a BDSM. Denise is an FBI agent that has always moved to the head of the class and the business world by her hard work and being aggressive. That is why it was so hard for her to accept her own desire to submit in the bedroom. Victor was there to help teach her that being a bottom was an empowering experience and awaken her deepest desires.

I have several other works in progress including another dragon story and two vampire stories. I will tell you more about them as I get closer to finishing them.

Generally, how long does it take you to write a book?
It varies, depending on the length of the book and the complexity of the storyline. I have taken an entire year to write my first novel, Dragon Heat. Short stories are much quicker. I wrote a couple of stories (only 5 pages long) that took me 2-3 days to write and proofread. I am a lot slower than some writers, who can pump out the pages in just days, but I really like the end result of what I get. If I am not happy with where the story is going, that is when I get hit with writer’s block. Which means, I just can’t write anymore. So I have learned to just take my time and not force the story out. If I give them time, the characters will speak to me and tell me what they want.

When I wrote Dragon Heat, I threw away six chapters of work, because I didn’t like where the story was headed and was having trouble writing any further. I think the story is better because of it, and now I aim for quality and not quantity.

Why did you decide to write romance novels?
Romance is a classic journey that we all take in life. It can have so much meaning and be powerful. I want to write a story that takes the reader on a journey again to find their soul mate. That special person that completes them. I want to be able to get an emotional reaction from my readers and involve them. That is why I write romance.

Are you a member of any author groups - RWA, critique groups, etc.?
I joined RWA so I could join my local writers group, here in Nashville. The Music City Romance Writer’s Association. I love it and have learned a lot from the monthly meetings and the newsletters. I have also found a great support system on the internet. One of my favorite forums is at www.romancedivas.com. It’s fantastic. I have a critiques partner which I met from there, Dahlia Rose. She writes paranormal romance and romantic suspense. She has been very helpful on my original feedback.

How may readers contact you?
They may contact me by my website. I can also be found around the web on various other locations. I have a Myspace account. I have a yahoo group where you can chat and talk and learn about upcoming events. Sometimes there may even be a guest speaker or a fun day scheduled. I have two other blogs, one personal one http://www.missylyons.blogspot.com I also am a contributor for The Writer’s Corner. You can also find my yahoo 360 account.

Do you have a favorite comment or question from a reader?
Yes, I even saved this comment. Naughty or Nice was my first contemporary romance ever published. It was the first time I had the opportunity to hear back from my fans and I loved it when I got my first fan mail! She was so sweet to have shared how she felt about reading my story. Here it is:
"I read it, and was captivated by it!! The sexual scenes and how you lead up to it the tension is intense. Scott's image of her in his head was erotic and steamy and I especially love how you played out their love making on the beach, and that bathroom scene was HOTT!! Made me want to find a public bathroom and try that (See now you're going to get me and the bf arrested...LOL)"

You can find Naughty or Nice at Fictionwise here.

Who are some of your other favorite authors to read?
Karen Marie Moning, Christina Dodd, Sabrina Jeffries, Anne Rice, Anne MccAffrey, J.R. Ward, and J.K. Rowling. I could go on, but the readers would get bored. Karen Marie Moning was the author that inspired me to begin writing seriously again and not just for fun.

Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?
If this is a dream that you want to pursue, don’t give up. Some people will naysay you and others may get jealous. There are a lot of different roadblocks, but if you want it, then pursue it. Write everyday and read as often as you can. This is a lot of work and the work doesn’t stop after you get your book published, but with determination you can do it too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us.
