I am delighted to be speaking with author
Lexie Davis today. Thanks for chatting with me today
Lexie and welcome to FAR!
It's my pleasure. Thanks for having me.
To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I started writing at an early age, more out of force than anything, and fell in love with it. However I wrote scripts/plays instead of novels and short stories. I won my first contest in fourth grade for a very unique play (the theme was biology with characters to match!) Needless to say I have a very creative imagination. Since then I've wrote plays for high school, and radio productions before I even attempted writing creative fiction. I read my first romance in high school, and decided this is what I want to write and finally set my mind to it to get that first novel wrote. Of course that novel never sold, and I don't plan to ever try to sell it, but the rest is history.
It's Been Awhile is due out in October from Total-e-bound. Can you give us a sneak peek?
I would love to. My character Ben Hawkins is coming back to his hometown, Tyler, Texas, for his first ever concert with his band Darkfever. He gave up many things to be in the band, one of them being the love of his life Marah Spencer. She however is a reporter now, and is there to interview the famous band. It's a reunion romance which is one of my personal favorite themes. These two go through trials and tribulations in their lives yet when they see each other again sparks fly as if they've never been apart in the first place.
What was the hardest aspect of writing
It's Been Awhile? How did you overcome it?
Hardest...I can't give too much away, but writing about my main character's past together was the hardest. Ben's character went through a lot before he left town to be in the band. How I overcame it...one scene at a time.
What's one thing you would like your readers to know about you?
I work really hard to create the best fiction I can. Also, I enjoy hearing from any and all readers.
What would you consider your most interesting quirk?
I'm a huge football fan. I have three "favorite teams" I watch faithfully. When football season is in, I enjoy sitting before the TV and watching my favorite teams play all day long *grin*
Your book
Rain Fell Down is getting great reviews. Can you tell us about it?
Rain Fell Down is about a woman finding a man in a rainstorm and the end resulting in a one night stand. Afterward, Lacey discovers the man to be her ex's employer.
Where did the idea for
Rain Fell Down come from?
Good Question. Well, I get ideas from everywhere. I think this one developed when my hometown went through a type of monsoon and it rained for weeks solid. I picked a general topic and the story sort of developed itself from there.
Is it hard for you to balance your life as a writer? How do you manage it?
Yes, to be honest. I've sold many manuscripts since my first, Undeniable, and juggling edits, writing, reviewing, reading and life in general does tend to get stressful. I manage by basically giving myself the weekends off. I can work all I need to during the week, but I get both Saturday and Sunday's off.
What is the hardest part of bringing out a book? Surviving the editor? Promotion? The last chapter?
I would have to say promotion. You can write the best book in the world, but if no one knows about it, no one will buy it. I'm constantly looking for new and exciting promotional ideas.
What can readers look forward to seeing from you in the next 12 months?
A website!! It's in the makings so hopefully it'll be live soon. And of course I have many stories coming out the rest of this year. It's Been Awhile in October, Leave the Pieces and Loving Arms in November, and Undeniable in December. I have some I'm editing right now, Devil's Got A New Disguise, One Night Only and Amuse Me, so they'll be available soon. And of course I'm writing new material so readers will have that to look forward to as well in the upcoming year!
Who would you like to pen a book with, living or deceased?
Oh, this is a tough one. I have many favorite authors and I'm sure if any one of them wanted to pen a book with me I'd probably say yes in a heartbeat. But if I chose, I'd have to say Michelle M. Pillow, Sahara Kelly or Red Garnier. All of them are wonderful authors and I read their work faithfully.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us today?
My book Rain Fell Down's cover has been nominated for The New Covey Awards for the entire month of October. The beautiful cover was designed by the wonderful Lyn Taylor and she and I would really appreciate your votes. The link to the voting is http://thenewcoveyawards.blogspot.com/
