Today Fallen Angel Reviews is happy to be speaking with
BJ McCall.
BJ, please pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let's learn more about
BJ.
BJ, I notice that you have some very nice reviews. I also see that you have a love of romance, and science fiction. Are there any other genres that you love to either write or read?
I love the paranormal genre and have written vampire, werewolf, angel and fantasy stories. Lunar Eclipse, released April 2008 by Changeling Press is a werewolf story with a contemporary setting.
The readers would love to hear about your latest release,
Jewels of the Nile, Volume 1. Can you tell us a little about this read?
Earthly Pleasure is my contribution to Jewels of the Nile I. A hunky celestial warrior, Itan, visits Earth to "seed" a female chosen by the Celestial Council. Renee knows Itan is a warrior, but she has no knowledge of his mission. The sensual sparks fly, but Renee is an independent woman and doesn't appreciate her life choices being made for her.
Would you like to tell us where you get your ideas for your stories? You have nice covers too, by the way.
At times the genesis of my stories confounds me. I guess I've always been a daydreamer and have an active imagination. Sometimes my ideas come from the character. I imagine the hero or heroine and have to write their story. I've written a scene in my head and from that one encounter between the hero and heroine a story evolves.
I've been blessed with great covers. My Lunar Eclipse cover by Renee George is gorgeous. I recently received the cover art for my next Ellora's Cave book, Knight's Emerald. I love the cover.
Would you like to share with the readers what your typical day consists of after you get out of bed?
A typical day begins with tea in bed. I'm not a coffee drinker. After breakfast and a shower my husband and I take the dog for a walk to the beach. I live on the beautiful central coast of California and looking at the ocean each day is nothing less than a miracle. I write, always have a WIP, cook, do housework (groan) and I admit I watch TV. I love American Idol.
How special would you say writing is to you?
I love to write. I don't have children, so my books are my special creations.
What would you classify as your favorite part of a book to write? The beginning, middle, or end?
The beginning of a book is exciting; I'm just getting to know my characters. The end is satisfying; my characters have fallen in love. In my stories they are always together on the last page and in the imaginable future.
Is there something about
BJ that the readers would never guess that would come as a complete shock?
I don't think this will shock the readers, but it certainly gave me a jolt. I began my writing career with Secrets (Vol 3 and 5). After the paperback were published, the numbered volumes were put together by twos in hardbound and sold by Doubleday Book Club. I recall my excitement when receiving a hardbound copy. I thumbed through the pages and on the "About the Author" page there was a single sentence regretfully informing the reader that I had sadly passed away. Believe me, there's nothing quite like reading one's obit!
If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
I'd love to listen to a group of readers talk about my books. I'd learn so much.
Where do you get your inspiration for your writing?
Characters live in my imagination. They have to get out.
Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
I don't outline. The book evolves as I go. I know the beginning and sometimes I even know the ending, but the journey always amazes me.
Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?
They do. I dream about them, but I've never felt haunted.
Who would you like to pen a book with, living or dead?
My friend, Kate Douglas, author of Wolf Tales and Angela Knight who made Sci-fi sexy and me go Wow!!
Where do you see yourself in three years from now?
Still writing and taking walks to the beach. I love my life and right now I don't want to change a thing!
Do you have a website other than
bjmccall.com that you would like to share with your readers? Perhaps a myspace or blog.
No other website. Sorry.
For Fun: What is your favorite sweet?
I love chocolate. If there's a box in front of me, I'll pick the truffle. If I'm grabbing it off the grocery store shelf, peanut butter cups.
Which do you prefer warm bubble baths or long hot showers?
I like showers. I was tempted to refer to the long and hot, but I'll refrain.
BJ, not sure if you are into cooking or the Food Network, but if you were chosen to be on a show with either Bobby Flay, Rachel Ray or Paula Deen, who would you choose, and what meal would you prepare?
I'd grill fish with Bobby.
Thank you so much for spending time with us today,
BJ. To learn more about
