Hello
Gail and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It is good to have you with us this morning. We are anxious to hear about
Gail Faulkner and her books.
Gail, why not grab a seat and relax. I believe
Stealing Carmen has been receiving some excellent ratings. In fact all of your books excel. I notice you have some coming soon releases on your site, too, not to mention quite a large selection of books.
Why not tell us about your newest release today?
Stealing Carmen is an amazing book for me. Last year was difficult personally. I lost my grandmother, my dog of 15 years and closed a business due to the down turn in the economy. All three wrenching events took time to deal with. On top of that, we moved.
I was so tired of being heartbroken. Turning to the thing that makes me happy, I wrote Stealing Carmen in a week. Thirty days later it was contracted. I think my secret is out. I write to amuse myself. I'm just lucky others enjoy it too.
I'm amazed and grateful for the readers who enjoy my work. They have made me smile so many times when I really needed it.
Tell us,
Gail, what is a typical day like for you?
Now that I do what I love for a living, its way different from the days I used to go to the office. 4 a.m., usually up checking e-mail, blogs, industry news. Then I write 'til around 7 a.m.
After getting the pixie and DH out of the house I write until I'm too burned mentally to do more. Usually that's about 1 pm. At which point I'm always shocked that I didn't shower and dress yet. Yikes. I'm a mess. LOL
How would you describe your writing space?
My writing space is practical. In all honesty, I can write anywhere, just like I can read anywhere. If I can get the laptop plugged in and me feeling comfortable, I'm going to write. Sometimes I write at the kitchen table, sometimes sitting on the couch.
Do you dive right into your characters and become a part of the story?
Yep. I start with a scene in my head, usually no plot. From there they take over. Not every story flows easily. Sometimes I have to stop and plot the flow, but usually, even if I do that the characters hijack my careful plans. I suppose that is why they feel real to me as I write. They don't pay attention to me.
When you are not composing, how do you spend your time?
I love to relax. Gardening is fun. I love watching things grow and bloom. I will always have to READ! The only thing better than a good book is… um… well, there are few things better than a good book. Love movies and sight seeing. No need to travel to sight see, just drive a new road. Our family enjoys gawking at the locals as if we don't live here ourselves. LOL
What would you classify as your favorite part of writing?
Starting a story! It sweeps me into another world and everything is new. Next favorite is when an editor contracts the story. That is awesome. I'm never sure since I'm mostly entertaining myself when I write.
Once your story is finished and you type, The End, do you miss your characters or do they still play loudly in your head?
Only one character lives with me all the time. The rest I can stop and think about and know what they'd say, or how they'd react. The one who is with me is not the most comfortable guy to have around. He is never loud. He doesn't have to be.
The ones you might call loud are the characters I haven't written about yet. They can be insistent.
Do you have a particular character that you wish you could write about again?
No. When a story is done I am very comfortable with the characters, they quiet down.
Do you have any unfinished projects sitting around?
YES. Dang, now I'm guilty again. LOL
Right now I'm doing a three book dragon series. I have all three dragons in my head but can only do one story at a time. Pushy beasts.
Also I have a Ghost Unit almost done. However the dragons have shoved themselves to the head of the line. Charlie is patient and all, but I'm afraid his good humor is about to run out. The situation could get ugly real fast. Think Predator vs Alien, only in my head.
There is another series I've been working on. The first book is finished and sent to the folks who accept or deny. No idea when I'll hear back on that. Nope, not telling what that one is about. Again, three books and I'm ignoring the protagonists for the next two books until I hear back on the first. They don't like it.
Is there another website other than
gailfaulkner.comthat you would like to share with your readers?
I wanted something more interactive so I chose blogging. You can find excerpts of works in progress there. I enjoy the freedom of hearing what others think that the blog gives me. gailfaulknernews.blogspot.com.
What is your favorite dessert you can't live without?
CHEESECAKE! However, it's not an everyday thing. Cheesecake is special and must only be indulged on special occasions. That is how wonderful cheesecake is.
Also, bad cheesecake is not only bad, it's a crime! :)
What is your favorite city you love to visit?
I have always wanted to see San Francisco and Seattle. I've never been west so they seem exotic and romantic. LOL
But the city I most enjoy visiting on the east coast is Disney World. I know, it's not a city. Doesn't matter. I adore Disney World and I don't care what that says about my inner child. LOL
Do you have any secret indulgences that you enjoy?
Um… telling you would make them not a secret. (uncomfortable fidget) Oh okay, I love spending a day in bed with the DH watching movies. I mean ALL day. And sometimes the movie watching is not as important as the being in bed part. LOL
Thank you so much for sharing time with us today,
Gail. It has been a pleasure and I wish you the best with your writing.
Thank you for having me. I've had a lot of fun. Being around all the naughty angels is a blast!
Apparently naughty angels know a thing or two about cheesecake. It's really not fair to make me all shaky and vulnerable with excellent cheesecake and coffee. Now I have no idea what I just said.
