Fiona Jayde Interview

Hello Fiona Jayde, Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It's a pleasure having you here with us.
Thank you Linda - It's a pleasure to be here :)

Can you tell us more about yourself?
I'm originally from Russia and if I get mad I get my accent back. My husband always knows when he's close to getting in trouble!

I live in North California with my husband and my cat who decided I need feline supervision when I write and must be somewhere within the vicinity of my laptop.

When did you realize you wanted to become a writer?
I've always known I wanted to write. When I was a kid I wrote a sequel to one of my favorite stories. It was 12 pages long and illustrated by yours truly.

What has inspired you to become a writer?
I've had a lot of influences in my life by other writers. I credit Nora Roberts for making me fall in love with the written language - I think I learned English because I couldn't get enough of her books.

The wonderful Angela Knight inspired me to write erotic romance, and her advice to writers on her blog gave me what I needed to actually finish a story :)

Are you currently working on anything right now?
I am - and I'm also one of those writers who can't talk about a current WIP because it fizzles out… Let's just say it's a futuristic urban fantasy where the hero is a jaded dark soul looking for redemption and the heroine fights her own nature against what is expected of her.

Could you tell us about your current release or soon to be releases?
My current release is a first book in a new series - TechnoMagic: Sexsomniac. It is set in a world where humans fear magick, and employ technology to find and suppress those who wield it. The hero is an Enforcer who seeks help from a female magick wielder to find a monster, however my heroine being a practical soul tries to control him with a lust spell that goes wrong.

When you are writing do you listen to music, watch TV or do you need it to be completely quiet?
Music does inspire me, but if I write, whether it's on or off, I won't hear it. As for TV - it has this power to hypnotize me. I can't have the TV on anywhere around me - even if it's not something I want to watch, I'll be glued to the screen. Maybe there's some truth about KGB planting subliminal message there? LOL

How long did it take for your first book to be published?
My first published novella was actually the first book I ever finished; it took a couple of months.

How does your family feel about having a writer in the family?
My family is very proud of me - my sister is still nagging me to write that one book whose title she came up with purely by accident (it's absolutely brilliant!)

Are there any other genres that you would like to explore in your writing?
I really enjoy mystery/suspense in a contemporary setting and I would love an opportunity to explore that genre.

What is the most valuable piece of advice that you have ever been given as an author?
Angela Knight's blog - where she often posts advice for writers. What got me to actually finish a book was her advice to "just write". As in don't revise to death until you finish something. And that was me - I would constantly rewrite the first couple of pages until I got sick of it and dropped the story. This way I ignored everything until I was finished - and ended up with my first novella.

What authors and genres do you enjoy reading?
I love a cop/detective/secret agent story with lots of action and steamy romance. Anne Stuart is one of my favorite authors. I tend to read an eclectic mix of genres - paranormal, sci fi/fantasy, anything by Nora Roberts/JD Robb, Angela Knight, Linda Howard, Beth Kery, Lacey Savage, Sierra Dafoe, Lora Leigh, Lian Hearn…

If you go any where for a week with one of your hero's from your book who would you choose and why him?
It would be Rayan Slade from Urban Myth. Dark, dangerous with a soft side under all those weapons, tortured soul of a vampyre and eyes of an angel.

When you are not writing, what are you doing for fun?
I enjoy painting with oils, digital cgi art - I'm often teased with housing a Fantasy Male Factory on my computer, jazz piano, chatting with the ladies at the Triple Exposure group, going on motorcycle rides with hubby …and reading!

What do you hope readers get out of reading one of your books?
I hope the readers will lose themselves in the world that I've created, fall for the hero along with the heroine and feel the rollercoaster of emotions with my characters.

Seeing you have wonderful covers do you have any say in what you want on them or what you want them to look like?
Thank you! I know how hard it is to translate words into actual on screen images - and luckily the cover artists I've worked with do a great job reading between the lines of my suggestions :)

Would you like to share your web sites where readers can visit you?
My website is www.fionajayde.com and readers will often find me chatting at the TripleExposure yahoo group.
