Emily McKay Interview

Today I am speaking with Emily McKay. Hello Emily and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews.

Emily, congratulations on The Billionaire's Doorstep from Silhouette Desire to be out in April, and congrats on your other books, too. I know you are excited.

We would love to hear about this delightful story, can you enlighten us?
Basically, it's about two brothers who come home one evening and find a baby on their doorstep with a note saying "It's yours." But they don't know which one of them is the father or who the mother is.
The heroine, Lucy, is the baby's aunt. When she finds out her reckless twin sister abandoned little baby Isabella, she's determined to get Isabella back, even if she has to pretend to be her sister to do it. She just has to convince Dex, the hero, that she's the woman he slept with fourteen months ago.

Emily, what other works do you have in progress?
I just finished up the sequel to Baby on the Billionaire's Doorstep, Baby Benefits. It's about Dex's brother, Derek. Next up I'm working on the Hudsons of Beverly Hills continuity for Harlequin/Silhouette.

How many books do you see yourself composing?
As many as I can. :)

What is it about writing that really makes you want to grab the readers into one of your stories?
When I'm really excited about a story (and there's no point in writing a story you're not excited about), I can only hope that I'm talented enough to get the reader excited about it too.

Do you command your characters or do they take charge of you?
I'm a firm believer that the writer is in charge. If the characters try to rebel, it's my job to whip them into shape. And most of the time that works.

Are you an organized person?
Goodness no. But I keep trying to change.

What is your favorite genre to write and read?
I love all genres of romance. Category is my first love, what I've been reading the longest. But I love a great, rich Historical. Or an action packed Romantic Suspense. Or a paranormal that takes you to whole 'nother world. Basically, I just love a good love story.

If you could say anything to any aspiring writer, what advice would you give?
Don't ever give up. As long as you keep writing, you'll eventually sell.

You are granted three wishes, what would you wish for?
World peace, an end to global warming, and a satisfying ending to Lost.

I notice you love to travel to exotic places, of all the places in the world you have not visited, which one would you choose to visit now, if you had the chance?
Costa Rica is always my favorite. I love the amazing primary rain forests-the really pristine places. It reminds you of how interconnected all of life is. It just can't be beat.

I heard you like to cook and bake cookies. If Bobby Flay, from the Food Network, were to challenge you to a throwdown, what cookie would you bake to out win Bobby?
My Cranberry Oatmeal. It's my most unique cookie and everyone always raves. Though I think I'd have a better chance of beating him in a Key Lime Pie throwdown. I'm totally ready for that one! (And I love that show.)

For Fun: What is your favorite television show?
Oh, gosh. Tough question!

Battlestar Galactica is always phenomenal. (Yes, I'm a total, Sci-fi-loving geek.) How I Met Your Mother always makes me laugh-sometimes so hard I have to pause the Tivo to catch my breath. That's a very good thing.

I love Lost and it always keeps me guess ... but I'm worried they're going to bungle it before the end of the show.

I heard you like to garden. If you were to wake one morning and learn you are a farmer and need to plant a huge crop, what would be your choice crop to plant?
Cotton. My hubby grew up on a cotton farm, so he'd know what to do.
Though, once, driving through west Texas, we passed a field of sunflowers in cultivation. It was one of the coolest things I'd every seen. Somehow I never made the connection that if you can buy a bag of sunflowers seeds in the store, that means someone must grow them. So that would be cooler than cotton.

Do you have a website or myspace you can share with us?
www.emilymckay.com

What is your favorite animal?
Cats. I love how mercurial they are. Warm and cuddly one moment, completely disdainful the next.

Emily, thank you for sharing time with us today. I wish you the best in your writing endeavors and huge sales. Keep those great books coming.
