Hello
Amelia and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It is good to have you with us this morning. We are anxious to hear about Master Storyteller,
Amelia Grey and her books.
First let me say, congrats to all the awards you have won on your books, and to the sales of your stories to Europe, Russia and China. That is wonderful!
Tell us,
Amelia, what is a typical day like for you?
My office is outside my home in my husband's office building so I dress every day for work and I'm usually at the office by 9:00. I spend the first hour or so answering e-mails, notes and things like that. I usually get started writing about 10:30 and work until about 12:30 and take a short lunch break. I'm back at work by 1:00 and usually work until 4:30 or 5:00. I never work on weekends or in the evenings.
We would love to hear more about,
A Duke to Die For, A Rogue's Dynasty #1. Could you please tell us about this story?
In A Duke To Die For responsibility is the last thing Blake is looking for when Miss Henrietta Tweed arrives at his door claiming that he is her new guardian. The carefree duke doesn't want any part of taking care of anyone, especially the kind beautiful, young lady he would much rather seduce than protect. Having been born to power and privilege Blake doesn't know the first thing about responsibility or boundaries. He's never had to, of course, until he meets Henrietta. She adds order and discipline to his carefree lifestyle, and he doesn't quite know what to make of it. But there are more than just organizational skills to Henrietta, she believes she is cursed. And why shouldn't she? Her previous five guardians have all died mysteriously, and she believes Blake will be the next victim.
Why not tell us about your other upcoming releases?
I'd be happy to give you a short blurb about the second and third books of the trilogy:
A Marquis To Marry
October 2009
Based on true events regarding an infamous five-strands of pearls' necklace, A Marquis To Marry is the story of Lord Raceworth, a man determined to find the thief who stole his grandmother's pearls. The trail leads him to Susannah Brookfield who is searching for the pearls as well. She swears the elusive necklace belongs to her family, not his. Danger lurks around every corner as they join forces to find the thief. But after a night of unexpected passion, Susannah wonders if the real danger lies with the thief, or in the arms of Lord Raceworth.
An Earl to Enchant
April 2010
In An Earl to Enchant, Arianna Sweet has a secret. Her recently deceased father discovered a formula which could be cure consumption. But because of suspicious circumstances surrounding her father's death, Arianna is certain whoever killed her father is after her too.
For help, she turns to Lord Morgandale, the rake of London Society. After years of living on the edge of London's underground intrigues, Lord Morgandale wants only to accept his title and live a quiet life at his country estate. But once Miss Sweet arrives, the notorious bad boy finds himself in the unaccustomed position of having to keep the enchanting innocent out of harm's way.
What does your working space look like?
My office is light and airy with three windows covered only by plantation shutters so I can let in a lot of light. My desk is light wood with ornate scroll work on fluted column legs. I have a fourteen inch flat screen so I can see the full page that I'm working on . My book shelf is behind me where I keep all my research material. Today I have a rose on my desk that I cut from a rosebush in my front yard. It's pink and beautiful. One wall in my office is filled with 19 framed book covers and soon I'll be adding number 20.
Do you dive right into your characters and become a part of the story?
You know sometimes a character just flows from my mind to my fingertips and other times I really have to work to make the character come alive and not feel or read flat.
From what do you derive the most inspiration for your writing?
Just sitting by myself and daydreaming. I love my alone time where I can sit quietly and just imagine all kinds of plots, characters and drama.
What is your favorite part of writing?
Thinking up the concept of the story. As with A Duke To Die For, I loved deciding what kind of hero and heroine I would have and what their goals would be. I loved adding that Henrietta would believe she was cursed and that Blake would be afraid of heights. I loved dreaming up Blake's meddlesome cousins and Henrietta's penchant for order in her life. The actual writing and making the story work is not nearly as much fun as dreaming up the idea.
What about your least favorite part?
Revisions, of course! :)
Any character that you wish you could write about again?
Probably not. I have too much fun coming up with new characters to write about.
For someone who has been married to their high school sweetheart for over twenty-five years, how would you plan the most beautiful wedding?
Oh, I absolutely LOVE weddings! I go to everyone I get invited to. Whether it be in a church, a garden or on a beach, I would have flowers, tulle and candles everywhere. I would have the music played by violin. I would ask everyone to dress up and look glamorous.
Please share with us your website, myspace, or any links with your books?
I'm at ameliagrey.com and e-mail is ameliagrey@comcast.net.
Amelia, having lived in many different states, which would you say has been the most cherished that shared a memory you will never forget?
Oh, wow, that is a tough question as I have enjoyed every place I have lived even though Connecticut and New Hampshire are very cold to me. Of course I love Florida. I was born here, and I'm a sunshine kind of girl. Give me hot, sunny days and balmy nights with a big magnolia moon in a starry sky.
If you had the chance to see your books in a movie, who would you like to play the leading roles?
I loved the chemistry between Keira Knightly and James McAvoy in "Atonement". I would love to see the two of them as Henrietta and Blake. Wow!
Amelia, I hear you like flowers. What is your absolute favorite flower?
The rose always wins my heart. I have several rose bushes in my garden. And when they bloom, I don't leave them on the bushes as I don't spend much time outside. I cut them and bring them inside. I enjoy seeing them on the breakfast table and my dressing table. I love every color but I have to say the lavender rose is my favorite. And I have a pink one, the first rose of spring on my desk right now.
Thank you so much for sharing time with us today,
Amelia. It has been a pleasure, and I wish you the best with your writing.
