Today I am speaking with
Kiki Howell, author of magical erotic romance. Good Morning
Kiki and thank you so much for talking time out of your busy day to speak with Fallen Angel Reviews.
Why not tell the readers about
The Witch’s Beast, hmm, A witch rejected...a few spells for revenge...an arrogant Prince turned into a Beast...a beautiful woman taken captive...it all sounds delightful. Can you enlighten us on the story?
Sure! It was so fun to write. Ever since I was little, I hated that the Witch, who cast the spell on the Beast, only got a one line mention in the story. I mean, there would not even be a story without her! So, I rewrote a very adult version of the tale, retelling it completely from the Witch's point of view. She casts the spell out of revenge, and then becomes enraged when he takes Beauty into his castle. This, of course, creates a love triangle, and I can say no more...
Do you allow yourself a set time each day to compose your stories?
Yes. I try to write when my kids are in school, as much as I can. It is the only time the house is truly quite. :)
Is your writing schedule hectic?
It can be. There are always other obligations I try to juggle around it. When I am up against a deadline with edits or submission dates, plus after-school activities it can get a bit crazy to be there for everyone. I am always trying to find a balance and do it all! Cleaning the house and laundry often get left behind in the dust, literally.
What can we look forward to in stories from you in the future?
The submissions I have out right now are paranormal regency romances: one with a shape shifter and a witch, and one with a vampire. I love all of the paranormal stuff, and I guess I am trying it all! I am currently working on an erotic urban fantasy involving a group of immortals and a group of men dabbling in black magic.
Could you describe yourself in 3 sentences for our readers?
I am a wife and a mother first. I am fascinated by mystical things, which I both read and write about almost daily. I am a true Pisces, so much so that it is almost scary!
Outside of your writing, what keeps your interest? Do you have any hobbies that occupy your time and help with the creative process?
Rarely a day goes by that I don't read. I always am into one fiction book, one or two or several research books, and one self-help book usually on the Law of Attraction at any given time. I also, when I can carve out some time, knit. I find it a very calming activity. I love to get lost in a good movie too, and I am a complete LOST junkie. I think just being creative or reading or watching someone else's creative venture helps.
Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Yes. I have written stories ever since I can remember, and wanted to see my words in print. I took about a decade break from writing when I first had my kids, which I will never regret. But, it did eventually take its toll on me mentally, not to have the outlet.
How did it feel to have your first sale?
So wonderful, that even as a writer, I have no words to accurately describe it.
Has your family supported you in your career choice?
Very much so! My husband more than encouraged me to get back into writing. He even bought me a laptop, and gave me writing books when I had trouble at first. He was the one who said to make it a full time career.
Of all your characters in your books, which of your characters is your favorite?
Truthfully, I have been waiting for The Witch's Beast to release, because it was my favorite to write. The Witch is so strong in that she goes after what she wants, but she has her faults too in that she can be rash when it comes to love. Yet, she loves with her full heart, and doesn't complain when she has to bear the consequences of her actions.
I like the cozy pic of you in front of the fireplace. For someone who spends time with family, what is the best time or vacation trip you and your family have shared?
We are kind-of home-bodies. My favorite thing to do is spend an evening at home with my family. We pick a favorite meal to make, like a spicy cheese fondue followed by a decadent chocolate one. Then, we eat it in the living room watching TV. We do this a lot when a new episode of a favorite show comes out, or for sports events on TV. Other nights, we will play a board game together. I just like the time spent with lost of talk and lots of laughing. I love snow, too. So, add in a good storm I can watch coming down and we can go out and play in the next day, and I am one happy woman.
For someone who loves to bake, if you could go on any cooking show, which one would it be, and what dessert would you prepare?
You know, I don’t watch any cooking shows, but I love a good cookbook. To decide on a dessert would be agonizing, but i can assure you it would be cakey and chocolaty! The messier, the better it tastes in my book.
