Leigh Ellwood Interview

Hello Leigh and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. Pull up a chair and let the readers get to know more about award-winning author of erotica, and erotic romance fiction, Leigh Ellwood.

What book would you like to discuss with us today, Leigh?
I am proud to announce my latest novella, The Dares That Bind is available from Phaze Books on 4/13! As the title reveals, this title is part of my Dareville series of erotic romance. Bind has a BDSM theme and is set early in the series, concurrent with the events in the first novel, Truth or Dare.

Here's a blurb:
Victoria Robeson is content to live at home and work her dead-end job, despite dealing with her overbearing mother, just as long as she has time to write. When she meets the handsome and mysterious Alton Weiss as Dareville prepares for Brady Garriston's big concert, Vic is unnerved and intrigued by how well he knows her personality and desires.

Alton introduces her to a world of sensuality and submission, encouraging her to become a new woman. But is Alton merely a weekend distraction, or the promise of a better life?

Do you find your books draw you in and it is hard to let go once you have finished?
I'd have to say yes. After I finish a first draft, I usually take a week or so off to distance myself from the work. I find it gives me better perspective when I go to revise it.

How long would you say it takes you to finish a book?
Depends. My last full-length work took about 3 months to write, and an additional 3 months for editing and polish. That's about average for me.

Leigh, do you have any bad writing habits?
I procrastinate a lot, and I have to tell you the Internet doesn't help. I've become addicted to Twitter, so there are days when I should be writing and I find myself checking Twitter updates. It's like crack.

Can you tell us something about you that makes you unique?
I don't sleep. I understand it's necessary to survive, but I think I've conditioned myself to live without it. I do miss it, though. :)

While writing, how does the story develop for you? Do you go from start to finish or create scenes as they come to you?
If I'm writing a long story, I plan a basic outline, chapter by chapter. I may not always adhere to the schedule, but I find that having the structure there helps keep me on course.

How do you keep your ideas fresh and imaginative?
I look for inspiration everywhere - movies, music, a walk in the park. I think of things I don't normally see in romance novels and try to make it work. In The Dares That Bind, the heroine works in a toll booth. Not exactly a common job for romance characters.

When you are not writing, what is your favorite thing to do every day?
I like to tinker on websites. I have so many to work on; it could be a full time job.

Of all your books, what would you say is your favorite?
Hard to tell, you can't pick a favorite child. I have always loved Dare Me, the second Dareville novel, and a non-Dareville novel, Muse, has a special place for me, as it was the first romance I wrote.

Who has been the greatest support for you throughout your writing career?
Fellow authors at Phaze books have been very supportive, and my friend Joe, who has attended some of my signings, has always been a rock in rough times.

Which room in your home would you say is your favorite?
It would have to be the living room. Every night I park on the couch and get to work.

Do you have a favorite children's story?
When I was in middle school, one of my favorite books was The Treasure Trap by Virginia Masterman-Smith, a mystery novel about two kids searching an abandoned house for a deceased neighbor's millions. It had been out of print for years, but I learned you can still get copies, so I'll have to get one.

Would you share your website with the readers, as well as any myspace, or loops?
I have several websites:

My official website, My Dareville series, Blog, Twitter

You have been invited on a picnic and must bring three food items, a dessert and something to drink for thirty people. What would be your choices?
Tough choice. I love food. But I'll go with Buffalo shrimp, ginger glazed carrots, mac and cheese, sweet iced tea, and chocolate cupcakes for everybody.

Leigh, thank you so much for spending time with us today. Everyone please check out Leigh's website to read more about her releases.
