Tess MacKall Interview

Good day to Tess MacKall, I am so pleased to be interviewing you for Fallen Angel Reviews. I can’t wait to pick your brain and let your fans know a bit more about you. I am excited to hear about your latest release!

You recently had a new release at Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, could you tell us about it?
His Sweet Obsession is a highly romantic contemporary western. The setting is the wonderful Double Eagle Ranch in Texas, which my heroine’s Aunt has left to my heroine, Addy, in her will. The ranch’s foreman is Jack. When Addy was growing up on the ranch she had fallen in love with him, but he hurt her and she left because of it. Now she is back because of her Aunt’s death and is determined to sell the ranch. Jack does everything he can to convince her otherwise. In the meantime, they have to deal with all their issues from the past. It’s a very steamy, heartfelt romance.

When you started writing, how did you decide what genre you would be writing?
I started writing what I loved to read and things evolved from there. I love writing erotica as well as erotic romance. Generally contemporary, but not always in a western setting. This is my first western. I have a book I’m collaborating on now that is set in New Orleans which uses vodou as a running theme. I’m also finishing up another one set in a large metropolitan area. I will, however, return to a western setting at some point. I think we can all use another cowboy or two. *wink*

What was the first story you ever wrote?
Mr. Workman, my seventh grade teacher, had the most boring voice in the world, so to tune him out I would write. My first endeavor produced a sassy little teenager who didn’t always see eye to eye with boys. As an adult, my first try was a huge, sweeping epic with a terrorist plot which came out erotic. Great plot, and the book is something I plan to revamp once I have the time.

Where do you get the inspiration for your stories?
Sometimes a picture or song can inspire me. I think my frame of mind decides the voice I use. I usually come up with a title first and then the book just follows along.

Why do you think erotic fiction is so popular right now?
Because we demand more and more for ourselves—and rightly so. We want to see our fantasies become reality, so to speak. If not in our own bedrooms, then at least in what we read—visit on occasion, if you will. The door to human sexuality was closed far too long.

Is there a specific "type" of male that you like to write in your stories?
The great alpha male, of course. Is there any other? But seriously, my heroes always have a bit of chink in their armor. And I always give them a pivotal moment in which they make a decision that seems to pull everything in the story together. In His Sweet Obsession, Jack’s actions force Addy to come to terms with their conflict.

What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
My father always said: “Know the answer to the questions before you ask them.”

My grandmother always said: “You can fall in love with a rich man as easily as a poor one.” (Not that any of their advice has ever worked for me, I’m afraid.)

What are some of your hobbies besides writing?
I love to cook, and of course read.

If you could be invisible for one hour, what would you do and where would you go?
I’d haunt the walls of the White House and see how things are really going.

Could you please tell us about your upcoming works?
I have two submissions I’m awaiting word on now. Both incredibly romantic. One is about a man and woman who are the reincarnation of a pirate and his lady three hundred years ago. The other is a bit of a Cinderella story. And I am finishing up a submission that is pure erotica, however it does have romance. The erotica piece is very edgy.

Could you share your website, myspace, or any other info you would like to with your fans.
I’d be happy to and look forward to hearing from readers. Thanks so much for your interest. Fallen Angel Reviews is the best!
