I am excited to welcome
Wendi Darlin to Fallen Angel Reviews for a thought invoking interview. Hi
Wendi, boy have I got some fun questions for you! I can’t wait to find out more about you and your writing. Let’s get started.
Wow, you sure have some smoking hot males on your book covers, (fanning self), do you have a say in how you would like to have your covers look?
LOL! The cover gods have definitely smiled on me. Yes, most of the time I do get some say in how the covers turn out. But the artists (Jinger Heaston and Tamra Westberry) who’ve done covers for me have really been phenomenal. When I send in my cover art information to the artist, I usually include a note that says, if you can’t find a photo of a man that looks as hot as my hero, please just give me some really sexy abs.
It is apparent that you are partial to cowboys, can you tell us what attracts you to that type of character?
I’m a Southern girl who grew up in a rural area. Men just look better to me in jeans. That slow drawl is music to my ears. And what is it about the hat??? Seriously. Stetsons just do something for a man. If you don’t believe me, find pictures of some of country music’s superstars without their hats on. Yeah, there’s a reason they wear them.
You are an award winning, published author, has it changed your life in any way?
One word. Deadlines. Actually, it’s great. I’m living my dream sharing stories with other people, and the best feeling in the world is getting an email from someone saying they’ve enjoyed one of my books or fallen in love with one of the characters.
If you there was one thing you would change about being an author, what would it be?
I wish I could work regular hours. Some writers manage that. So far I haven’t been able to, but I’d love to write for a set number of hours each day and then forget about it at night and on the weekends so I could fully devote that time to my family.
Could you tell us a little about your upcoming work?
Thanks for asking. I have a new release February 27th with The Wild Rose Press (Wilder Roses). The book is titled Better Than Chocolate. It’s my first paranormal and I’m really excited about it.
I’m also working on two books right now. One is a contemporary cowboy romance and the other is an erotic cowboy m/f/m ménage. I also have plans to write the sequels to Hired Hands and Cowboy Games in the very near future.
Is there anything that you need to write, i.e. peace and quiet, music, hot hunky male close by...?
I’d love to say I have a hottie perched on my desk or rubbing my shoulders while I write, but what I really need is quiet. I don’t write well with distractions, even music tends to bother me most of the time. My biggest distraction is email. Some days I just have to take my alphasmart outside and stay as far away from my computer as possible or I won’t get any work done.
How do you come up with the names of your characters?
I usually have a hard time with that. I google cowboys a lot and flip through baby name books. Sometimes I’ll get halfway through a book using a name I don’t really love and then do a find and replace when I come up with a better one.
Do you ever name them after people you know?
Not intentionally, but my sisters and friends have pointed out characters to me that have the same name as distant family members or old acquaintances. Ooops!
If you were stranded on an island and you could only have one book with you, what book would that be?
Gone with the Wind is my all time favorite book, and it’s long so it would keep me busy for a while.
Please share your website, myspace, or any other way your fans can find you!
Website, blog and MySpace. I don’t keep up with my myspace page much, but there’s some nice eye candy there for you to check out. I’m also a member of Midnight Seductions Authors. We have a yahoo group that you’re welcome to join.
Anything else you would like to share with us?
I also write non-erotic books as Wendi Christner. My sweet coming of age story The Water Bearer is available now through BookStrand, and I will have a cozy mystery available later in the year. Thanks so much for the interview!
What a fabulous interview! Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to let Fallen Angel Reviews delve into your life. I know your fans are going enjoy learning more about you and what makes you tick.
Thanks again.
