Nancy Henderson Interview

Good morning Nancy and welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews. It is so good to have this chat with you this morning. Readers are eager to learn what the New Year has planned for Nancy Henderson and all her writing accomplishments.
Good morning, Linda. Thank you so much for having me.

I like your website, it is quite unique. Also, I thought the printable book list was really neat. There is even a reader page. Not to mention a section where one can get a free bookmark, pen or magnet, or whatever you might have available. Readers will also find it easy to navigate.
Thank you. I work hard at updating the site myself, not always an easy task, but I try to make it fresh and exciting for my readers.

I see you have another release out. Wicked Redemption sounds intriguing. Just the blurb make Cole and Maggie sound like characters that will definitely keep the audience turning the pages. I think the cover is awesome, it really speaks. Would you like to share a bit about this story with us today?
I’d love to! I’m really excited about this story. Paranormals are always so much fun to write. They don’t even seem like real work! Here’s a blurb:

Maggie Webb never considered her ability a gift. In fact, seeing dead people has put quite a damper on her life. When a demon shows up seeking revenge, all hell breaks loose. An even bigger problem: he passes out in her home then wakes up with no memory whatsoever.

Cole Turner is back from Hell, and he’s going to make Maggie pay. Maggie’s “gift” is blocking his mission of stealing souls. However, coming to Earth without permission from The Dark One has cut his ties to Hell and caused him to lose his memory. He no longer knows Maggie Webb as his enemy but sees her as the only person who can help him discover who, or what, he really is.

Maggie doesn’t want to see the vulnerability in Cole, and the healer in her struggles against her better judgment. Having amnesia, Cole reveals his humanity to her, and he becomes the first to really understand her gift, which gradually unlocks her guarded heart. The attraction she feels toward him is undeniable, but if Cole regains his memory he may try to destroy her once again. And if the Dark One finds him…Can Maggie break the bonds of Hell?

Then In August, I notice you have another release, Stranger in His Bed. Another story that sounds like it is going to be a treasure to read. Would you like to give the readers a sneak peek about this story?
Stranger in His Bed is probably one of the most unusual historicals I’ve even written. I guess that’s bound to happen when the heroine has so many secrets. Here’s a blurb:

A spy for the British, Cat Sterling is used to living dangerously. Despite having a bounty on her head, she never expects to be shot in the line of duty and left for dead.

Angus French had enough problems without finding a near-dead woman on his property. A Revolution was coming, and British sympathizers have just burned down his tavern. The last thing he needs is to be caught housing a woman who’s working for them.

The price on Cat’s head will more than pay for the damage done to his business. He never expects Cat to see him as security and kindness, two things she’s never had in life. And he never expects to learn that Cat has a few secrets of her own which threaten to rip them apart.

Where do you get your ideas for these fabulous tales?
People ask me this all the time, and honestly, I really have no idea. I have a warped imagination by nature, and I come from generations of storytellers.

How attached do you become to your characters, or do you?
It’s very hard to end a book. I miss my characters, yes, but the minute I start another book I’m head over heels for them just the same as any story.

By writing for two different publishers, do you find it hard to go by the different guidelines, or are they about the same when it comes to writing?
It’s really no different. They’re both wonderful publishers to write for, and I feel very lucky to have been accepted by both.

What is it about Historical and Paranormal Romance that you find most interesting?
The difference in my writing “voice” for each. Most of my paranormals are contemporaries, so I’m free to use everyday modern American slang. My historicals, not so much. It really surprised me how different my writing is for each.

Do you have to do much research in your Historical Romance: Native American Series?
Yes, quite a bit. My Native American romances are set in Colonial America, so there was a great deal of research I had to do on the Revolutionary War. It didn’t feel like work, though, since I’m such a history buff anyway.

Do you prefer to start with an outline when you write or just go with the flow?
I prefer to just go with the flow. I love the aspect of not knowing how the story will turn out. Of course, I know there will be a happy ending, but that’s all. I don’t know how my characters will reach that happy ending. That’s the fun part. I have outlined before writing. Both my paranormals were outlined in order to create a believable “world” for them. I feel lucky that I can write both styles, plotter and pantster, but jumping right in head first is my favorite way to go.

I believe you have a blog, and a myspace. Some people find it hard to maintain one or both. Do you find it hard keeping up with blogging or taking care of a myspace with other things happening in your life?
Yes, my blog is: http://www.nancyhenderson.blogspot.com and my Myspace page is: http://www.myspace.com/nancyhenderson I update my blog almost daily. Mostly random thoughts, oftentimes making so sense whatsoever. LOL My Myspace page is less frequently updated, I’m ashamed to say. But maintaining balance and organization is one of my New Year’s resolutions, so it’s a work in progress.

Sometimes do you feel like your life has more sanity, or more stability?
It varies. If I’m on deadline, it’s a circus. Those are the times I’m living on coffee and Doritos and have dark circles under my eyes. LOL

Okay, I would love to hear about your menagerie of pets. Would you mind sharing your animals with us and how they have changed any part of your life?
Well, I’m currently down to only one cat, who is inseparable with Katie, my dog. I’ve always had pets in my life. Cats find me, decide to come live with me, and if I didn’t have at least one dog, I’d go crazy. It’s nothing to have a cat lying across my keyboard, a dog at my feet. I’m always posting pictures of them and their crazy antics on my blog.

Nancy, I love your style of writing. Would you please share your website, myspace or any other links with us?
Sure, here’s where you can find me:

My website: http://www.nancyhenderson.com

My blog: http://www.nancyhenderson.blogspot.com

Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/nancyhenderson

I’m also a regular blogger at The Writer’s Vineyard, which is: http://thewritersvineyard.com

You have decided to schedule a party to promote your most recent release but this isn’t your ordinary party. The guests get to bring along their pet to the festivities. What three celebrities would you like to attend with their pet? And what would be the main course: for your guests? And for the pets?
Hmm…that’s a tough one. The Dog Whisperer, and I’m sorry but I can’t remember his name offhand. I love his work with dogs. I’d really like to meet Stephen King and Antonio Banderas, but I’m not sure if they have pets. LOL

What is on your agenda for this New Year, any new resolutions in your plans?
To become better organized, maybe even clean my writing cave at least once this year. I’m currently finishing up another historical with a Native American hero, so I’m anxious to get that to my editor. Then maybe begin another historical series and finish rewrites on a paranormal novella.

Nancy, thank you for taking time out Nancy Henderson Interview
