Mechele Armstrong Interview

Welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews, Mechele Armstrong is with me today and we are going to get to know her a little better. So Mechele, let’s get started.
Thanks so much for having me!

You have quite a few books under your belt, can you tell us about your latest release?
My latest release is part of a multi-author series, entitled I HEART THAT CITY, centered around a bar. Body Shots follows Joe and Daphne, a married couple in a state of flux who meet an intriguing photographer, Amos at I HEART THAT CITY. They become interested in him and he in them but the past rears its ugly head and tries to tear their new found ménage a trois apart.

What is the biggest misconception about being an author?
That we are all wealthy. LOL. Even my family makes comments.

When did you decide to take "pen in hand" and write with the intent to publish?
I’ve written forever. I got more serious about writing about…six years ago. I started learning about my craft. In learning more, I became more serious about getting published, too.

Do you outline your stories or do you just write as you go?
I usually write as I go. Most times, I know where it’s going even if I haven’t outlined or put anything on paper. But I don’t always know all the twists and turns it will take my characters to get there.

Do you feel as if the characters live with you as you write? Do they haunt your dreams?
I can’t say they haunt my dreams but they do take over as I write them. I feel like they live in my head. It’s my duty to get their story onto paper.

If you could become the character in any book, which character would that be? Why?
Now that’s a hard question. I had to save it for last. In my books, the answer would be Sarah from Blood Lines: Blood Kiss because she’s my favorite character. She’s got this inner strength combined with an inner naivety that she’ll never lose. Not to mention, she ends up with Nick.

A character from a book not my own, I’d probably become Grace from Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I adore Grace. She’s such a neat, friendly character. And Julian…one of the best heroes by Ms. Kenyon.

How has being published changed your life, if at all?
I’m living my dream. The amount I make has made it possible for me to stay home and not get another job, which means I’m home for my kids. My writing schedule is flexible enough I can be there when they get home from school, which I love. Were I not published, I’m not sure I’d able to swing that.

Any advice for aspiring authors?
Oh yes. Learn your craft. Don’t give up. Give yourself permission to write badly, It doesn’t have to be perfect the first time through. The only thing you can’t go back and fix is a blank page.

What book is on top of your To Be Read pile?
There are two actually. Snow Blind by Lori G. Armstrong. It’s been there since I bought it. I know it’s the last Julie Collins book so I find myself saving it LOL. Even though I can’t wait to read it. And on my desk is Private Places with stories by Robin Schone, Claudia Dane, Allyson James, and Shiloh Walker.

Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
Well I’ve submitted a Settler’s Mine ménage that I’m waiting to hear back on. It’s a different twist on the whole heartstone determines your mates' situation. And I’m working on a new contemporary ménage that’s going to be really fun, involving people trapped by a situation and how that one night will bind them together.
