Terry Spear Interview

Today at Fallen Angel Reviews our guest is Terry Spear. Good morning, Terry, and welcome. The readers are anxious to learn about Terry and her latest release.

As an author of Scottish Medieval Romance and Urban Fantasy, you have spun some wonderful books to read. Your latest, Deadly Liaisons immediately pulled me into the story. Tezra and Daemon are fascinating players. Would you like to tell us about your latest release?
First, thanks so much for having me here today, Linda! When I wrote Heart of the Wolf, it was a love triangle story, tied in with a set of murders. But in Destiny of the Wolf, I wanted to show a working werewolf pack that actually ran a town, although the few humans who live there are clueless about the existence of lupus garou. It was fun showing family dynamics in relation to werewolves and what happens when a little red female werewolf from another pack turns the pack leader and his whole pack’s world upside down.

Where do you get your ideas for your stories?
In the first story, I wanted to show a werewolf world closely related to the way real wolves behave in the wild. In the second one, I wanted something really different. Same world, but when most blend in with humans in cities, I thought, what would it be like if the werewolves actually ran a town? How difficult would that be? And then with To Tempt the Wolf, coming Sep 1, I wanted to show a pack leader who’s lost his home, his pack, and his...well, I won’t give everything away. But he gets mixed up with a human woman who isn’t quite what she seems. And in the white wolf tale coming next year, both the hero and heroine are humans, and I wanted to show how they’d deal with werewolf issues. After that, I’m working on a couple of stories that will include some of the characters from earlier books, by fans’ request.

How long does it take you to finish a book from start to submission?
Three months.

Are there any other upcoming projects that you are working on?
The White Wolf tale, and the other two wolf stories.

Do you find it difficult coming up with a title for your books?
Not usually, although the titles have been changed recently.

Have your characters ever wakened you up in the middle of the night and insisted you write?
Oh absolutely. Mostly though, it’s right after I turn off the light, and my brain starts to think over things in the story. Then I have to turn on the light and jot it down or I’ll forget it. Sometimes in the morning when I wake up, the same thing will happen. I’ll begin thinking about the story I’m currently working on and have to jot it down before I do anything else.

Do you have any bad writing habits?
Absolutely not!

Finish the sentence: Life is short, so...?
We should live for today and not borrow worries from the future. Now, if only I would live my life like that!

You are granted three wishes, what would you wish for?
I’ve just learned that my mother has inoperable cancer, so my three wishes would all have to do with making her happy.

Do you have anything else you would like to share with your readers?
I have to say that I’ve had the most delightful fan mail that has lifted my spirits tremendously. I’m always thrilled to answer fan mail and if anyone wants me to write more about one of the characters in the story, just let me know!

What is the most delicious meal you have ever eaten?
I’m sure I’m showing the wolf side of me, but Outback Steakhouse’s Victoria’s Filet. I was going to say Secret, but I don’t think they sell those there.

Do you have a household chore that you really hate doing?
Hmm, you mean I can only choose one? How about just household chores in general. I love to garden though.

If a famous celebrity came to you and ask you to make them one of your famous bears and they would endorse your books, which famous celeb would you wish it to be?
Okay, Brad Pitt was a vampire in Interview with a Vampire right? So I can make him up as a vampire. Or, he was glorious in Troy...just a cute little toga and that should do it!
