Em Petrova Interview

Today I have the pleasure of speaking with author Em Petrova. Thanks for taking time to talk with me today Em.
Hi! I'm really excited to be here at Fallen Angel Reviews. Who wants to share my pitcher of margaritas? It's been a loooooong day!

To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I'm an erotic romance author who is known for VERY hot stories. I love to push my characters-and readers-to the limits! I'm also a mother of four elementary-age kids.

Could you tell readers a little bit about your new release Encompassed?
Encompassed is book four of the Immortal Series with Red Sage Publishing. My immortals aren't vamps or shifters-they're simply humans who have been given immortal blood and are able to Walk the earth without growing old or dying.

In this book, a five-hundred year romance between a ship's captain and his Mayan princess mate has gone a bit stale. They embark upon a journey to find that spark-like so many couples in real life. What they find is a little more than a spark-it's an inferno in the shape of a long-legged blonde.

What are the most challenging things for you as an author in creating and continuing with a series?
In a series, it's important to know when to stop, or if you're not ready to call it quits, then to find that new tangent. As an avid reader, I hate when you're involved in a series, and by book number six, you're praying the author finally killed off the heroine. With my Immortal Series, the first four books center around a group of friends. But the next books in the series would expand into other generations and explore more history.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
Some writers have trouble with sex scenes-I have the opposite problem. My sex scenes write themselves-page after page of scorching heat! In fact, my writing partner, Suzanne Rock, and I have a new non-fiction book on craft-Writing Sex Scenes When You're Not Feeling Sexy, giving readers tips to get them-and their readers-involved in their love scenes.

What is the most interesting thing you've done in the name of research?
Bought my first toy! LOL. My findings? They're not as good as the real thing. But I can see why women get addicted to them.

If you could meet one of your characters, who would it be?
I love all my characters, but my hero from my recent release Blown Down from Ellora's Cave really tugs at my heart. Levi is a man who's spent time in prison for an accidental death. Now he's struggling to make a new life for himself-and maybe find love-while outrunning his past.

What is the biggest misconception about being an author?
That you can sit back and let the sales roll in. Promotion is hard work and unfortunately takes up a huge block of time for authors-time most of us would rather spend writing!

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Hmm. This is a toughie. I talk to my characters very seriously while I clean houses for extra cash. For some reason, they decide to really chat me up during this mindless task. I use the moments to interview them, and learn their voices.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?
At the age of twelve, when my girlfriends were begging for the next installment of my tweenie romance series!

If you had a warning label, what would it say?
Product may scorch your reading device--back up your information before downloading!

If you could be any super hero, who would you be? And why?
Elasti-girl from The Incredibles. With four kids, I need super-stretchy arms.

You have the chance to have dinner with a famous entertainer. Who would you jump at the chance to spend an evening with?
Tori Amos! The goddess! I have every song she's ever produced. I can listen to her for more than fourteen nonstop hours on my iPod. She's an amazing storyteller, and I admire that about her work.

What can your fans look forward to in the next twelve months from you?
More smut! LOL. Actually, I have a new series coming out with Loose Id-The Harris Boys. The first book Outlaws of Love is a western ménage a trois set in 1870's Texas. The hunky hero has eleven more brothers and cousins, who are just as rowdy, badass, shoot-em-up and slide-under-the-radar as he is! Look for Outlaws of Love in February 2012.

In addition to that, I have some books releasing in print, such as The Tempest, which has many five-star reviews. I'm really excited to lay my hands on that print version! Watch my website for details.

I'm also working on an exciting new series I hope to place with a NY publisher. The first book is nearly completed, and is one of my most ambitious works yet.

Is there anything else you would like to add today?
*waves frantically to readers* Without you, I'm nothing! So thank you!

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions for us today Em!
:) Thank you so much! It was a treat!
