Cara Marsi Interview

Today I have the pleasure of speaking with author Cara Marsi. Thanks for being here today Cara, welcome to FAR!

To start, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Thank you, FAR, for having me today. It's my pleasure.

When I was a corporate drone and cubicle dweller living in a fabric-covered cage, the creative energy of writing romance allowed my mind to escape the reality of my everyday world, at least for a while. No longer a corporate drone, I still need to give voice to the characters who inhabit my head. My larger-than-life heroines and heroes demand release, and I'm happy to oblige. I read and write romance to satisfy my craving for good love stories with happy endings. For as long as I can remember, I've made up stories in my head. I started reading romance novels in my teens. Since childhood I'd fantasized about being an author, but life got in the way and I didn't pursue my dream. Now, at last, I've realized my dream with four novels and almost a dozen short stories published. I credit my love of romance to the old Thirties and Forties romantic comedies that played on late-night TV when I was growing up. My husband and I love to travel and I love to write about the places we've visited. We live on the East Coast and share our house with a fat, black diva of a cat named Killer. I have one son who lives 3000 miles away.

Please tell readers a little bit about your current release Murder, Mi Amore.
Lexie Cortese is in Rome to forget. The last thing she expects is to meet a sexy Interpol agent who suspects her of being part of a terrorist plot involving a stolen diamond. Suddenly thrust into a world of murders, muggings, and kidnappings, Lexie doesn't know what to think-or who to believe. Dominic Brioni's assignment is simple. Befriend the American and bring her to justice. Only Lexie seems the most unlikely terrorist Dominic has ever met. Sweet, determined, and direct, she faces life with courage and fire, a fire that sparks his protective instincts and a longing for something more-something he allowed himself to hope for only once before. But that woman betrayed him, and his boss isn't about to let him forget it. With his career on the line and Lexie in danger, will Dominic learn to trust his heart before they both get killed?

What inspired you to write Murder, Mi Amore?
I'd visited Italy for the second time in 2006 and I wanted to write a story set there. When Wild Rose Press announced a new romantic suspense series that could be set anywhere in the world but had to include a stolen blue diamond, I had my story.

Is there a message in your story that you want readers to grasp?
Believe in yourself and fight for what you believe. Lexie has always done what others expect of her. She decides to take control of her life. When strange things begin happening to her, the police won't believe her, but she knows something is going on and she's determined to find out what it is. Dominic fights his old demons and has to learn to believe in his instincts again. Although Lexie feels Dominic is hiding something she recognizes a core of goodness in him and takes the leap of faith to trust him. Dominic also decides to trust Lexie and puts his job on the line for her.

What would you like to accomplish with your writing career?
I write the stories I want to read. I want to share those stories with others by writing and selling and hopefully entertain readers and tug at their hearts.

Can you tell us a little about your other upcoming works?
At the same time Murder, Mi Amore was released, I had another release, a paranormal romance from Noble Romance Publishing. Cursed Mates tells the story of Nick Radford, an English nobleman cursed to life as an immortal werewolf. He's been fighting the Beast inside for 500 years and fears he can no longer control it. Kyla Yaeger is an elite were-hunter with a scarred past. Nick fights his forbidden love for Kyla, knowing she is duty-bound to kill him. By the time she learns he's her target, she's already fallen for him. Kyla and Nick must join together to fight an even bigger threat-one that will destroy all humanity.

My romantic suspense, Logan's Redemption, originally published by The Wild Rose Press, is now available exclusively on Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook.

I also write short romance stories for the confession market.

What is the best advice that anyone ever gave you?
Never give up. Writers who give up never publish.

While writing, how does the story develop for you? Do you go from start to finish or create scenes as they come to you?
I start out with handwritten character sketches and a rough outline because I have to know where I'm going. But the stories tend to veer off in a different direction as I write. The characters take on a life of their own and they dictate how the story goes.

Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?
I hope to keep selling and have wider distribution of my stories. I want to share with as many readers as I can.

Since everybody needs a break, even when doing something they love, how do you like to spend your time away from writing?
I'm a TV junkie. I have favorite shows I won't miss: Hawaii Five-0, Bones, Desperate Housewives, Mad Men, The Mentalist, Nikita, CSI Miami, Criminal Minds, to name a few. I love to read, but don't do as much reading as I'd like because I spend my days writing. I also love to travel.

We all have one, so tell us yours. What is your favorite comfort food?
Potato chips. I can't keep them in the house because I'll eat a whole big bag at one sitting. When I get a rejection, I eat potato chips and drink red wine, my ultimate comfort combination.

Describe yourself in 5 words.
Short person who feels tall.

Do you have a website or blog where readers can learn more about you and your works?
My website and I'm a member of the Pop Culture Divas blog.

Is there anything else you would like to add today?
Please check out my video trailers for Murder, Mi Amore and Cursed Mates.

Thank you for taking time to speak with me today Cara.
