Today I'd like to welcome author Raven McAllan
to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us today Raven
When writing, do you adhere to a strict writing schedule or wait until the muse hits you?
I try to write each morning... Afternoon... Evening... Even during the night if necessary. I do have to do some housework though. Generally, I try to mix the two, especially when I've got the ironing to do. Its a bit like the donkey and the carrot then. Iron two shirts, write etc etc
How did you celebrate when Wallflowers Don't Wilt
I had got up for a glass of water at 3am, and checked my emails. Saw my acceptance and woke OH up with a happy dance around the bedroom! The next night he took me out for a VERY romantic meal, with bubbly-apologized for not being as happy as I felt he should be at the news when I told him. Well it was 3am.
Where would you say that you get your most creative ideas?
In the bath. To me a bath is my time for relaxing. Candles, wine, music, a book, or just to dream. And now a notebook and pencil. Gah the number of soggy notebooks drying out on the aga.....
Also in the car. Not a good idea to plot a sizzling sex scene, at the traffic lights, when you have the roof of your car down, and are talking it through aloud. The poor van driver next to me nearly crashed.
What was the hardest aspect of writing Wallflowers Don't Wilt
? How did you overcome it?
Actually writing words I wouldn't use today, but which were perfectly acceptable in Regency times. Strange how things change.
What is a typical day like for you?
I don't do typical... But generally, weekdays, OH brings me a cup of tea (well the alarm goes off ridiculously early for him to get to work on time.) I grab PC and stalk my in box... Just in case. Get up and look at what needs doing around the house. Ignore it. Go into the study, which overlooks the garden. Watch the tourists on the lane looking lost. Open PC. Play on FB, open MS. Look at ironing-ignore it. Make coffee, find chocolate. Go back to MS.. .Type like crazy. Realize I am still in PJ's and the window cleaner is here! Retreat to bathroom til he has gone. Get dressed and find I have 'the muse'. As long as I intersperse it with FB and skype. Weekends- I make the tea. And try NOT to use PC all day. Luckily OH is used to this thing attached to my arm, the growing pile of ironing, AND the ever increasing dust bunnies talking over the corners.
What exotic location could you see becoming your home away from home if cost wasn't an issue?
Singapore, Grenada, or Swellendam in South Africa. Or St Kilda in Aukland, Russell, New Zealand.. So many great place I've been to. Loads I don't want a home in but would love to re-visit.
If you could leave your readers with one legacy, what would you want it to be?
What song would be the perfect the theme song to your life?
Lol Cabaret maybe?
What's your favorite invention?
Chocolate. Or MacBook Air
Is there anything else you would like to add today?
Thanks for inviting me along. This is so surreal to me, I never thought I'd get this far. The only reason Wallflowers Don't Wilt was written was as a dare by my crit group-Up and Coming Writers. They then nagged and praised me until I finished it and sent it off. I must admit though I am very proud! It goes without saying, I'm also really thankful to Breathless Press, Jackie my ed, Victoria, my cover artist, and you for inviting me along.
Thanks again for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk with us today Raven
No thank you, it's been my pleasure.
