Today I'd like to welcome author Bernadette Marie
to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us today Bernadette
How long have you been writing?
I've been writing most of my life. I began writing novels at 13, but did not take myself as a serious writer until 2007 when I began to truly pursue it as a career.
Have you ever went back and read your own books for pleasure?
Yes. It is amazing that after you write it and move on you forget the little parts in the story that you added that make it wonderful. I laugh and cry just as my readers would.
How important is research in your writing?
Because I write in modern day and write in locations that I know well, research isn't as big a deal for me as it might be for someone writing, let's say, historical. However, some of my characters have issues or jobs that need to be felt out. For example, Madeline in A Second Chance, due out early 2012, has breast cancer. So I've been talking with many survivors to get a feel for their experience.
Where would you say that you get your most creative ideas?
They come from anywhere and everything. Any little thought is my muse. Lyrics in songs spark me. Not the meaning of the song itself, usually. Just a phrase. I wrote an entire book based on watching the tail lights on a car disappear.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
Be true to yourself and don't overwork your story. You need to puke it out and move on. Reediting can make you crazy and ruin the raw work.
If you could ask readers any one question, what would it be?
I'd ask them to lunch! I love spending time with my readers. Their input into what I write next is so important.
Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?
Straight to the top of the NY Times Bestsellers list! Haha! But really I hope to just keep improving on my storytelling skills. I would like to try a paranormal and a romantic suspense. I have some ideas brewing but need to be more familiar with the sub genres.
Could you tell us what you're currently working on?
I just released Cart Before the Horse and will be busy in editing A Second Chance. Writing wise I am rewriting a story a wrote early in my career which will be the first book in a series set in the small fictional town of Aspen Creek, Colorado.
What is your favorite type of genre to read?
I'm a sucker for a good contemporary romance.
If you could go back in time, where would you go and when? What is one thing you would want to take with you?
I'd head back to the 1940s and I'd take my laptop. It would be fun to write about what I saw first hand.
What is the wackiest job you can think of that you would like to do?
Trash collector! Can you imagine what you'd learn about people that way? What an insight into character!
Congratulations! You just won a year off from work to travel anywhere in the world and write the story of your dreams. Where do you go, what type of book do you write, and what's the title?
Bright Lights would be the title and I'd be in Vegas with my hubby. What a place to set a series with some of the most interesting characters you could find.
Is there anything else you would like to add today or any links where readers can find you?
I'd like to thank my readers for all their support. Without readers we write for our own amusement.
Here's my website and my blog. Find me on Facebook and twitter @ writesromance.
