Mandi Casey Interview

Today I'd like to welcome author Mandi Casey to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us today Mandi.

Please tell us about your current release Bizarre Life of Sydney Sedrick.
After a rogue werewolf attack triggers her latent powers as the Selected, Sydney Sedrick is reluctantly dragged into a war of vampires and werewolves, both battling for total species domination. Each try to use her as their pawn and are willing to use any force necessary to gain control of her special gifts. For her protection, Sydney is armed with only her grandmother's journal and Blake, the sexy werewolf who insists they are meant to be together.

In order to succeed, Sydney must embrace her destiny and join the battle to protect both sides from genocide. Caught between two very different worlds, belonging to neither, Sydney is forced to risk it all, or lose everything and everyone she holds dear.

When did you first start writing?
I was completing my graduate degree about five years ago for my day job and decided it was time to put the stories swirling around in my head into a novel, and I can't stop.

What made you want to become a writer?
Writing is something I've always wanted to do from very early on.

What satisfies you about your writing?
I fall in love with the stories, the characters, their struggles, but most of all when they come together.

Many writers occasionally hit a roadblock in their work. What do you do to avoid them, or, alternatively, to break through them?
I've heard authors say the best thing to do is keep writing no matter what, it might not be your best, but you have to push through it.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned while creating your books?
Now that I'm on the third book of the Sydney Sedrick series, I've realized it's crucial to take notes, details about characters and timelines is key to a consistent storyline, especially over the span of multiple novels.

What can your fans look forward to in the next six months from you?
I have a release coming out in June, Betrayal Bites, Book 2 in the Tales of Sydney Sedrick. I also plan on finishing the rough draft of Book 3 in the next few weeks.

What tools do you feel are must-haves for writers?
An open imagination is the number one tool for fiction writers, and the ability to hear what the characters need to happen in their stories.

What book has influenced your life the most?
I'd have to say the entire Fae Fever series is a huge inspiration to create a story with so many intricacies in detail, that my novels can not only stand on their own, but they tell a continuous story across the board.

What would you consider your most interesting quirk?
I have quite the dark and quirky sense of humor.

If you had a warning label, what would it say?
Fun question! I'll relate it to my writing, so it would say something like: Warning, you'll fall in love with the characters, get angry when they're wronged, feel strong with the growth of Sydney's powers, lighthearted when Blake glances at you with his 'come to me, I want to do all kinds of things to you' sideways glance, and you won't be able to sleep until you've read to the very last page.

Now for a little fun. Please finish the following sentences:

The first thing I bought when I sold my first book was…

a bigger flash drive

The best present I ever got was…
the Kinect for the xbox 360, I love dancing to the Black Eye'd Peas!

I'd love to meet…
Jason Stathom, well, it's probably obvious why :)

Do you have a website or blog where readers can learn more about you and your works?
My blog. I'm also on Facebook and Twitter @pararoma

Is there anything else you would like to add?
I just want to say thank you so much for having me. I'm as much a writer as I am an avid reader of paranormal romance and uban fantasy. I can't wait to find new authors who bring new ideas to the market as well as continue to craft my own and really connect with the readers.

Thank you for spending time with us today Mandi!
