Heather Long Interview

I am so happy to be talking today with a woman I love as a person and whose books I adore. Whether it's naughty or sweet, I can always count on her books to bring pure reading enjoyment. Heather Long, welcome to Fallen Angel Reviews!
Thanks Tara, glad to be here. I think I'm blushing a little at that compliment.

I've got to ask first about your Fevered Hearts series. I just read Marshal of Hel Dorado and I loved it so much, I immediately got book two, Brave are the Lonely. What can you tell readers about this series?
Marshal of Hel Dorado actually began as a novella; well the idea for it began as a novella. I wanted to write a paranormal set in a world with no Internet, highways, no phones - no really fast way to do anything. The old west is pretty darn perfect for that type of thing. I knew Sam, very well, but it's probably one of the few books that I began writing with the central couple in mind and discovered a whole world beyond them - brothers. Oh the brothers.

I love the whole premise of the Fevered Hearts. How did you come up with it?
I asked myself why would there be paranormal in the old west? What mediums already existed then that I could use to tell my story. One of the most dangerous parts of the frontier was the environment, not just the native population and the animals, but the actual weather, the insects and the diseases. Scarlet Fever outbreaks were extremely common, and very dangerous. People, young people particularly children, often died from these maladies. So I asked myself, what if the vector that introduced these paranormal-supernatural-super powered abilities was a disease.

The spirit fever allows me to explore all types of abilities and not everyone is a "Fevered" and the Fevered are very much "underground" because they don't want to be hunted or used. Although, as the world has grown, we learn more about who knows and what effect that can have.

The Love Thieves was most excellent. I loved the characters and the suspense. What is next for The Fortunate Buddha series?
Thank you! Let's see, we're still looking for that pesky little Buddha, so while Max's cousin Pietr gets in on the hunt, following a lead that takes him to New York and on a collision course with art expert Sophie Kingston for a dangerous escapade. The Taming of the Thief is scheduled for release July 17.

Tell me about the Forbidden Legacy series.
The Forbidden Legacy began as a paranormal romance that turned polyamorous and eventually became a ménage. Cassandra Belle always thought of herself as an ordinary woman, but when the Queen of the Fae hired her to break the story of the century, her whole world turned upside down. In the meanwhile, Cassie has her hands full with Helcyon, a powerful and mysterious Elf, and Jacob, a hardened and cynical Wizard.

It's magic, fantasy, and passion. Lots of fun for me. The second book came out at the beginning of June and the third is due out in September.

How about Always a Marine? What is this series about?
Always a Marine is a sub-series of Decadent's 1Night Stand line. 1 Night Stand is the business name of an exclusive online dating service run by Madame Evangeline. She provides her clients with the possibility of a happily ever after or a happily for now. Always a Marine is dedicated to finding happiness for the men and women wearing the uniform.

If you had to pick a favorite out of all your books or series, could you?
Every book I write is my favorite when I am writing it. I love all my characters and when I drift from series to series, I get to fall in love with them all over again.

I loved Max from The Love Thieves. That man was hot! Is there a character that is particularly close to your heart?
Hmm. Rory from my upcoming release Yesterday's Heroes - she was fantastic and I adored her. Jazz from Retreat Hell! She Just Got Here is another favorite. I really like strong, feisty women.

Is there a certain genre you prefer to write?
I love them all, but I have to write snarky women and romance with an edge.

If you had to pick one superhero to be your all time favorite, who would it be?
Batman. He's an average guy driven to extraordinary measures after the murder of his parents. Arguably he's a borderline psychopath with dissociative issues because Bruce Wayne is his mask, but he was awesome.

What is the craziest thing you have ever done?
I moved to California once because of a guy. It was crazy, impulsive and absolutely turned out terrible, but it was a wonderful learning experience.

Is there anything about you or your books you would like fans to know?
For me, the best books are those where the characters linger with you and that's what I try to do with the books I write. The characters are where the story starts for me and ultimately what brings me the most satisfaction. I hope they do the same for the readers.

What's next from the world of Heather Long? Any new series in the works?
The last two releases in Always a Marine come out just before the 4th of July.

Is there a website where readers can learn more about you and your books?
