Today I'd like to welcome author
Rachel Carrington to Fallen Angel Reviews. Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions for us today
Rachel.
Tell us about your latest book. What's the title and when will it be released?
My latest book is the third in the Vampires Destined series, Vampire Betrayed. It releases on May 31st, and it concludes the series. Joaquin has never loved a woman like he loves Ariana, but when she discovers what he really is, she turns her back on him. That pain is nothing compared to the agony of realizing she has allied herself with his greatest enemy in an effort to eliminate his kind.
Convinced that she will become Joaquin's next target now that she has ended their relationship, Ariana sees no other choice but to make sure she can take care of herself. To do that, she accepts help from a woman claiming to be a vampire hunter.
When Joaquin and Ariana meet next, the battle lines are drawn, but the sexual attraction remains just as strong. Even more intense if possible. Face to face, will they fight to the death or succumb to the heat rising between them?
When did you first start writing? What made you want to become a writer?
I first started writing at age sixteen. Before that, I dabbled a bit, but I never got serious until I wrote a poem for my boyfriend's funeral. He believed in me, and he was the one who convinced me never to give up on my dreams. I've been writing ever since.
What satisfies you about your writing?
Creating happily ever afters in a world where they don't always exist. For a brief amount of time, a reader can get lost and close out the bills, the bald tires, and grumpy bosses. They can just immerse themselves in an imaginary world of love, danger, passion, and, ultimately, happily ever after.
How did you celebrate selling your first book?
Wow. That was so long ago. My friend and I went out to dinner the next night and just imagined how this was the beginning of stardom. LOL
How long does it take you to write a story, and are you easily distracted?
It depends upon the length of the story. I'm a fast writer, fortunately, so I can put out 50,000 in about three weeks, faster if I'm on a deadline. I don't get easily distracted because I know that I have to get words on the screen or I can't go to bed. I have a goal to write every night, and since I like to sleep, I get it done. LOL
What do you still struggle with as an author?
The middle of the book. Even after all these years, I still struggle with that sagging middle. It's at that point where the plot lulls or the momentum lags, and I have to walk away. There are nights when, because of the middle of the story, I only write one hundred or two hundred words. Then the next night, I'll erase those.
What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
That writing can't be just a hobby. It's an all-in, no turning back job.
What were your feelings when your first novel was accepted and when you first saw the cover of the finished product?
I was in awe. I even had a big poster made of my first book cover just so I could sit it in my office where I could see it as I was writing. I get the same feeling whenever I get a book contract.
What can your fans look forward to in the next six months from you?
I have a three book vampire series, Vampire Destined, that released in May. I have a three book reincarnation series that I'm working on with my writing pal, Tess Manning, that will release in July. And I have a romantic suspense novel in edits right now with Ellora's Cave's Blush line.I'm also finishing up the prequel to my wizards of the Hot Magic series which will be available this year as well.
What tools do you feel are must-haves for writers?
Many, many books on marketing and promotions, A solid grasp of grammar and punctuation, A Twitter Account, A Facebook Account, A website, Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals, Accountability (usually with a fellow writer), Determination and A sense of humor.
What book has influenced your life the most?
The Bible.
What would you consider your most interesting quirk?
I probably shouldn't be sharing this, but I constantly buy pajamas. I've lost count of the pairs I have now, but it's rare that I go into a store like Target without coming out with another pair of pajamas. They're comforting to me. LOL
If you had a warning label, what would it say?
Warning: Subject delivers sarcasm quickly and efficiently
