The Hotel Philip was once a majestic, grand hotel. It was the epitome of luxury until the hotel became plagued, Room 33 in particular, with gruesome and unbelievable acts. As the murders and deaths in Room 33 continued, so did the decline of the once great hotel. When Joy Cole’s stepfather leaves the hotel to her upon his death, she is amazed but curious. The hotel is a hovel ready to fall down around itself, yet people are offering her money to sell. Intent on making the right decision about the hotel, she implores Wade Emerson, her stepfather’s son, to help her. Wade has his own reasons for wanting the hotel to stay open so he agrees to assist Joy. As the lure of the hotel captures her heart, Joy and Wade decide to restore the hotel. Only restoring a hotel is not as easy as they think. As guests start to disappear, Joy and Wade are faced with the knowledge that someone or something may have reasons for wanting the hotel to fade into oblivion and they are willing to do anything to ensure Joy and Wade fail.

In Room 33 E.C. Sheedy has created a romantic suspense that embodies the best of both genres. The reader is drawn into the lives and emotions of the characters and as the suspense builds so does the need to keep reading. Joy and Wade are a delight to read. They are fully developed characters that remain true to their wants and weaknesses. As the relationship between them changes, the reader is treated to not only some very hot love scenes, but also insight into the deeper disappointments and dreams of two very likeable people. A montage of supporting characters add humor, drama, and in some instances true evil to the story. E.C. Sheedy does an excellent job balancing the elements within the story. Readers will feel their blood heat as Joy and Wade come together, yet it will run cold as the horror behind Room 33 continues to build and culminates in an ending that displays the author’s talents and rewards readers with the conclusion. 4 Angels.
