Thin Ice
Mattie Kincaid has been given an opportunity to become a sports writer. The only problem is, the sport is hockey and Mattie knows nothing about hockey. To add insult to injury, the player sent to help her learn the ropes of the team has an intense dislike of reporters, especially female reporters. Grant Alexander has good reason not to trust reporters, yet meeting Mattie makes him question his judgment. There is something about her that touches him on an elemental level. As Mattie and Grant forge a tentative friendship, Mattie excels at her new job. However, when Mattie is forced to make a difficult decision it costs her the friendship and burgeoning love she has with Grant. Can Grant forgive her? When the truth is finally revealed will Mattie forgive Grant?
Jaxine Daniels continues her trend of delivering likable and believable characters. In Thin Ice, you meet Mattie and the players of the Storm hockey team. A team filled with charismatic and fun loving men. The book has many of the same characters mentioned in Black Ice, and it is a nice compliment to the first story about the Storm hockey players. The plot is well written and the characters are developed and diverse so it is not necessary to have read the first book. Mattie and Grant are an enjoyable couple to get to know. Mattie's transformation from a quiet, unsure individual to the determined forthright woman she becomes is eloquently portrayed. Readers will applaud when she finally learns to stand up for herself. Jaxine writes Grant with all the imperfections and endearing qualities that make him a man any woman would love to get to know. The emotions evident between the two main characters is engaging and ensures that readers want to see if these two people can find a way to be together. The secondary characters guarantee that there are moments of humor, mischief, and open emotion. The storyline progresses naturally and keeps the reader interested with humorous dialogue and romantic tension. Hopefully we will be seeing more of the Storm players in the future. 4 Angels!
