Frank is more than willing to catch the informant, especially if he can prove it is Angel. As the investigation heats up, and they are forced to work closely together, can Angel and Frank maintain their objectivity and put their feelings on hold? Or will their past cloud the present and jeopardize their lives and the mission?

Undercover Blues is this reviewer’s first book by Elizabeth Batten-Carew and I was delighted with her style. The storyline is infused with emotion, tension and suspense from the first page. The reader can’t help but be drawn into the plot as Frank and Angel are forced to confront each other and the chance they lost four years ago. As the story progresses, the depth of the characters is enhanced. Angel is both sensitive and strong. Her commitment to the greater good is commendable, but at the same time painful because of all she is willing to sacrifice in herself to accomplish her goal. Frank is an excellent foil for Angel. He too is committed to his job, but he shows Angel that there can be more that just work at the end of the day. As these two journey on a path of rediscovery, readers sit on the edge of their seats to see if they will succeed. The hope and trust that blossoms between these two characters is truly touching. The journey is made that much more intriguing by the ongoing investigation for the informant. The investigation lends twists and turns that will keep readers turning pages to see how it all ends. Ms. Batten-Carew’s ending does not disappoint and will leave readers looking for her next offering.
