Night Play
Sherrilyn Kenyon is known for her action-packed, hot Dark Hunter novels. In Night Play we get our first full novel about the Were-Hunters. Night Play is positively amazing. Ms. Kenyon’s heroes are some of the most tortured this reader has ever read. That is one of the most compelling elements to her novels. Vane is no exception.
Having never known a tender touch or a kind word, Vane is mesmerized by Bride. In his eyes she is everything a man could ever want in a woman. Only Vane is not 100% man. He’s part animal, a wolf in fact. Both parts of his nature demand that he take Bride for his own. Vain makes futile attempts to keep himself away from Bride; his enemies would not hesitate to kill her. When he can no longer resist her, they spend a magical night together, and the unexpected happens. It appears Bride is his mate and wolves mate for life.
Fresh from a devastating break-up, Bride’s self-esteem is at an all time low. When Vane comes into her life, she can’t imagine what a gorgeous man like him could possibly want with someone like her. Vane has the kind of look that turn heads, make people stop to stare and here she is a size 18. Vane makes her feel as no one else ever has. He genuinely wants her, protects her, and cherishes her. When Vane’s mother takes Bride from him, she has to wonder if she’s stepped into an episode of the Twilight Zone.
Sherrilyn Kenyon has again delivered an awesome book! Past characters and all time favorites grace the pages of Night Play. As with most series, the re-visits with prior characters is a plus. The development of the hero and heroine is enough to keep readers interested and reading until the last page. When you add the additional snippets about previous characters you can’t go wrong. I couldn’t put this book down and I couldn’t read fast enough to get to the end. I was engrossed while reading. Sherrilyn Kenyon is personally enriching the paranormal genre. Again the tortured hero element draws readers in. The descriptions into Vane’s life are heart breaking. In Night Play the absolution Vane finds with Bride is exhilarating to read. It’s also not every day that you read about a size 18 heroine. Ms. Kenyon portrays Bride’s insecurities realistically. It’s not that Bride doesn’t like the way she looks; she just hears the comments that every other person has made about her size, remembers all the ‘diets’ people have tried to put her on and can’t believe that Vane desires her exactly for what and who she is. Sherrilyn Kenyon draws you in and keeps you there. Night Play is a great addition to the Dark Hunter series. 5 Angels!
