Underneath it All
Darren Kaiser hates his life. He is single, good-looking, rich, lives in Manhattan and actually thought all of that made for a good life until he was named "Manhattan Match of the Year" by a national magazine. Since then he has women that he has never before laid eyes on, declaring their undying love and begging him to marry them. In desperation he flees to the other side of the country where he takes on the persona of a computer nerd complete with heavy framed glasses, loud gaudy shirts and too big shorts. He figures no woman will look twice at him looking like this and he can take the time to see if he can make it on his own without his family money and name. He doesn't count on his downstairs neighbor.
Kate Monahan thinks that her new upstairs neighbor is one of the strangest people she has ever met. He has thick gorgeous hair that is styled in a hideous style. He has beautiful gray eyes that are hidden behind dark ugly glasses and his clothes are too terrible to even talk about. But she finds herself falling for him anyway. It is so refreshing to meet a man who is honest and open and not afraid to be himself.
Underneath it All, not only earns a place on my keeper shelf but a place on the shelf with the all time favorites. This book is everything that a romance should be. They meet as strangers and slowly get to know one another looking past the outward appearance. It is all about getting to know the real person inside and understanding that true love usually finds us when we expect it least. Darren "Dean" Kaiser will forever remain one of my favorite heroes.
