Song Of The Wolf

Amy Michaels has always been drawn to wolves. She has claimed the wolf as her totem animal and finds comfort in the regular theme throughout her furnishings. However, she is baffled by her recurring dreams about timber wolves and herself running as a wolf. Working as a substitute kindergarten teacher in a remote country community, there is not much excitement in her life. She is boarding with two elderly spinsters and is more than worried that she will follow in their footsteps. Amy longs for the love of a good man. Unfortunately she feels that she has nothing to offer a partner. Years of endometriosis have left her sterile.

Following the death of his wife, Kellan Wagner has chosen to adopt a reclusive lifestyle. He is a famous musician, but raising 5 kids as a single parent has depleted his artistic bent. He has rebuffed most assistance from the local people, who now consider him a beast. When sweet Amy tries to involve his children in some community fundraising, Kellan is reborn. Amy with her delicious scent and optimistic outlook has nudged him out of his hard shell. Kellan and his children are shape-shifting werewolves, but Kellan has not changed since his wife died. Amy invigorates him. His senses are more acute and he feels the urge to run as a wolf again. Against the odds, Amy cannot believe how much she is attracted to this man and his children. Sadly, little Alicia will not accept a replacement mother and Amy knows she must go away before it hurts too much. Kellan knows he has never truly loved anyone before he met Amy. The wolf in him will not let her go, but will she be able to accept what he really is?

A heart-warming tale. Amy has struggled for years to accept the many challenges in her life. It seems that she was being prepared for a bigger challenge, is she strong enough to face it? Colette Denee has created a very realistic community. Amy and Kellan are very believable contemporary characters and their love story progresses very naturally. As this reader quickly slipped into the story, I was a little disappointed that it was so short. Would love the author to have taken it a little further and gone into more depth regarding the wolves and their conflicts. Ms Denee shows a lot of promise as an author. Her ideas are good and the characters' motivations very clear. I am keen to read more of her work. Recommended!
