It is the the last week of the school year Skylar Knight and her friend Ellodie Arparo. Normally the most miserable week of their school career, but this year is different. The richest and most popular girl in their class is having a Junior's only party and the whole class is invited. Blair Neuman's parties are supposed to be the best parties ever. What a delightful and humorous look back into the life of high school; shopping, girl talk, and boys! Author Celise Downs has recaptured the heart of high school in her debut novel, Secrets and Kisses. This is a tale about the crazy things girls talk about and do when they have a secret crush on a boy. This book has it all; mystery, humor, spies, and scandals. This high school sounds a lot more interesting than the high school this reviewer went to! The characters appear to be typical teens. Remember the inner circles of clicks? Yep, this book has that too. Blair is part of the "in crowd". Skylar and Ellie want to be apart of that even if they don't admit it. You can just feel it.
Now lets talk about boys! Kendren is not your typical hunk. He isn't into sports but who cares! When a guy is that good looking it just doesn't matter. The author does stretch reality with Kendren's character, but that is what fiction if for. All in all, Secrets and Kisses is a terrific first novel by Ms. Downs and this reviewer wishes that the story didn't end so soon! Reading this story is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours in the afternoon. Highly recommended for all readers, young and old alike.
