Bombshell

Grace Noonan seems to have it all in life. She has a great career as marketing executive for the cosmetics company Roxanne Dubrow. Though she's thirty-four, she has a great body and men really respond to it. She loves to shop and has a great best friend. Unfortunately, all the Jimmy Choo shoes in the world can't seem to make her boyfriends want to settle down and start a permanent life with her. To top it all off, she finds out that her birth mother has recently died, before Grace ever had the chance to talk to her. Now, with a new campaign starting at work, she has to try to focus all her energies on the project, when it's the last thing she wants to do. Her life gets even more complicated when she meets Dr. Jonathan Somerfield. Grace is incredibly attracted to Jonathan, and he seems to reciprocate the feeling, but Grace can't help feeling that there's something he's hiding. When Grace's parents fly to Paris for the holiday season rather than having the traditional holiday with Grace, she finally realizes how lonely and unhappy she is. She wants to turn her life around and not only does she manage to do it, she does it with style, grace, and a new pleasure in life.

Bombshell was a great read. Honest and heart wrenching, Grace seems to have it all, but like every woman, she has problems in her life too. No matter how put together she seems, there's a part of her that is unraveling at the seams. Lynda Curnyn has written a humorous and compassionate look at the lifestyle of a single girl in New York. The problems that Grace faces are very realistic and the solutions are just as true to life. Though the romance between Grace and Jonathan is not the main focus of the book, it is nevertheless an important part of the story. Curnyn manages to make their relationship's progression very natural and fun. As much as Grace wants the relationship to be perfect, she finally realizes that nothing is perfect, certainly not her new relationship. Nevertheless, despite its more cynical start, this book ends on a warm note as Grace finally realizes she is doing the best she can, and that sometimes you have to rely on others to get through the tough times. Bombshell is an exciting book that truly captures the spirit of a woman in her thirties and her struggles and challenges in life.
