The Ex Files: Mayhem and Maddie
When Maddie gets dumped by her husband, Albert, after ten years of marriage, she's in shock. She just doesn't know what to do with her life anymore and she can't help missing Albert, despite the fact that he was a total jerk to her. Then, two great things happen at once. Maddie crashes a party where she meets Cole Ashton… who just happens to be dressed up in a gigantic bunny costume. Nevertheless, they exchange phone numbers and though wary of starting a new relationship, Maddie gives Cole a call and from there things get hot.
The second wonderful thing that happens to Maddie is that she meets a great group of women at her Divorcee's Anonymous class. They quickly become friends and Maddie finally realizes that she's not alone, that there are women who have suffered through divorces just as bad as her own, or worse, in the case of Maxine, a woman who was beat by her ex-husband. She affectionately names them the Ex-Files. Suddenly her life, which had seemed so empty two weeks earlier, is filled with fun, laughter, new friends, and a potential relationship. When disaster strikes though, will Maddie be strong enough to help pull her friends through and manage to remain positive in the face of tragedy?
The Ex-Files: Mayhem and Maddie was truly a pleasure to read. I loved how Dakota Cassidy focused on Maddie and her struggle to heal herself, while at the same time, creating an entertaining and romantic story. Maddie really did grow in this story, as she starts off as a woman down on her luck but emerges as a woman who sees the promise in life again and is feeling a new vitality within herself. I love stories where the heroines are strong woman who can stand up to anything, and Maddie definitely fits the bill. As an added bonus, there is plenty of humor in this story, particularly involving the fur swap scene, where Maddie meets Cole for the first time. All in all, this was a great read that I would recommend to anyone looking for a fast and fun story. Dakota Cassidy even provides a sneak peak into her next Ex-Files book, with a glimpse at Maxine. This is a book not to be missed.
