The year is 2338 and the children being born into the world are different. Unfortunately, like most things that humans do not understand, they attempt to destroy them. Caris and her kind have decided no more children will be hurt, even if they must protect them with their lives.
Caris is a woman of enormous power, her character is honorable and strong willed at the same time she is touchingly vulnerable. Ms. Walker imbues Caris with a strength of will that is formidable, and also ensures you feel her femininity. Caris has taken on the job of assisting her kind, to ensure their survival. Her gift of dream walking is unique even to her kind, but on top of this she has several other gifts that allow her to aid their cause. Her inner strength has allowed her to survive as long as she has but she has always felt a yearning for something more. Afraid of letting herself relax she has always guarded herself to ensure her gifts are only used when needed. Unfortunately too tired to guard herself during a night of sleep she inadvertently transports a being into her world from across the galaxy.
Jax, a vampire of enormous power from another planet, is the epitome of your dream alpha hero. An honorable and noble vampire who keeps himself in check at all times to ensure his kind survive in his world. Unfortunately he is now in a new world where the rules are different, the people are different and the order is something alien and new to him. Meeting Caris, he is irresistibly drawn to her. In his world it would be unthinkable to marry one not of his kind, he could never have children, nor make love with out permission. However, Jax is not in his world anymore.
This is a futuristic tale of action adventure that was a fascinating and enthralling read. This reviewer was absolutely riveted by the storyline and the characters. Ms. Walker is unbelievably talented at making you lose yourself in any story. If that isn't enough, her characters are incredibly life-like. The interplay between Jax and Caris is electrifying. Caris, oh so prideful, and Jax, oh so knowing, create friction and drama at its best. You empathize, sympathize and cheer during each fraught drama or challenge and this story is packed with many of those. The love story between Jax and Caris is moving and exciting. You are not sure what's going to happen next so it makes you keep turning the pages until you read the last one. The lovemaking is sensual and erotic but touched with a soft yearning.
This reviewer found herself captured from the first page to the last, and let me tell you… I did not want it to end. Unfortunately, it did. The main characters Caris and Jax were enthralling but Ms. Walker introduced some secondary characters that were just as alluring. Alas, I will be looking forward to the continuation of this series as much as I do her vampire series. If you haven't gotten it yet… you should, it was well worth the money.
