This is not your grandmother's Fairy Tale. The story begins with an encounter in the local bar between an adult Blood Red (or just "Red") and the three Pig brothers, Joe, Jimmy, and John. When they try to beat her up, she kills two of them. It seems that this Red Riding Hood was scarred for life by seeing her Granny killed by the Big Bad Wolf, and has grown up into a hard, bitter woman who works as an assassin. Soon, however, Red meets the Wolf, and discovers that all may not be as it seemed. Could the Wolf be telling the truth when he says that her Granny was an evil sorceress who was going to kill her own granddaughter, and that he killed Granny to save Red? In this story, Red will need to listen to her heart rather than believe what she sees and hears.
I have to say that after reading this novel, you will never see Grimm's Fairy Tales quite the same way again. Although the idea was interesting, I thought the plot turns and twists were a bit contrived. This story should be rated "R" for violence rather than sex, because there is blood and gore on every page. However, there are very few sex scenes, and those seem fairly mechanical--although those few manage to encompass man/woman, female/female, and group sex. Because of the violence, I didn't find this novel that entertaining.
