Sons of Solaris: Taurus
Copeland's Sons of Solaris: Taurus is the next novel in the series that began with Sons of Solaris: Aries. Solaris, a mysterious man who informally adopted thirteen young men with mysterious talents, died in Aries. Now, his "Sons" must search for his killer ...
Tristan Manseletti is a wealthy art dealer--as well as being "Taurus." His life is in crisis, because the woman he has always thought was his soulmate, Cara Larsen, has left him. How could she really be his soulmate if she was able to leave him? Cara, who left Tristan partly because she is afraid of the deep feelings she has for him, has run to Reno, where she resumes her old profession of exotic dancer in one of the clubs. Tristan arrives in Reno, not knowing that Cara has taken refuge there, while he is on the trail of a mysterious artifact that will clarify the purpose and destiny of the Sons.
It would seem a simple matter for Tristan and Cara to meet and resolve their differences. Unfortunately, ensuing events prove that evil is never easily vanquished and that it takes supreme trust for two people to come together, even if that is their destiny.
This is an interesting mixture of suspense and erotica, although it took me a while to get into the story. There is much that is not explained at first--as the second in a series of novels, this story suffers from the assumption that the reader has already read the first in the series. The primary theme is how does one know which person is "the one?" The secondary theme is how does one identify evil and defeat it? Underlying all this is the understanding that every person has his or her failings and fears, and must work to overcome them. The erotic scenes are very hot, but they also further the plotline by demonstrating the emotional confusion of the characters. The internal conflicts caused by Cara's fears and Tristan's uncertainty are drawn very true to life, but their encounters are very sexy and loving. Start this novel only when you have time to finish it--you won't want to stop reading.
