This is a story of John and Sylvi, and how they strive to escape Sector 9, the worst slum on the moon settlement Urba. John's mother is a prostitute, and Sylvi has run away from her latest set of foster parents. Can they overcome the odds that society has stacked against them?
This science fiction short story is a hard-hitting and raw view of the future, somewhat in the style of Snow Crash. Because of the short length of the story (only 48 pages), the characters and scenes are drawn with bold strokes. The sex scenes are explicit, and help develop and build the sense of bleakness and despair engendered by the environment of poverty. I thought this was a very well-developed story, and look forward to the sequels in this series.Reviewed by: Jean
