Painting Penelope
Practical and proper Penelope Porter is outwardly content "following the drum" with her father. Once engaged to a soldier who died in battle, her life now consists of helping to tend the wounded in hospitals along with taking care of her father. This sedate existence is shaken up when she is informed that in payment of her father's gambling debt to him, Captain Logan Wilding wants to paint her…in the nude.
Logan has done several drawings of her after observing her as she went about her daily activities. However, his dreams are haunted by a sensuous, amorous incarnation of Penelope and it's this image Logan wishes to paint.
Painting Penelope is a true historical romance with a very erotic premise. Lyndi Lamont develops her story very well in just a few pages. This is quite simply one of the best short stories - of any kind - I have ever read. The reader is given enough insight into both Penelope and Logan so that the reader can understand their actions. The love scenes flow naturally into the story. That's not to say you might miss them. They are very noteworthy - sweet and tender one minute, passionate the next.
Lyndi Lamont is the pen name author Linda McLaughlin used for this, her first erotic romance. I hope she keeps on writing them for fans like me who are looking for spiced up historical romances! Painting Penelope is not to be missed - a keeper!!
