Wow! I would have paid more attention in Ancient History class if I'd have thought it could be romantic! eXtasy Books classifies Warrior's Captive: I, Briseis as a 'Legendary Passion' and that is an accurate description. It is an epic saga written in first person that follows Briseis for ten years, through three distinct phases in her life.
During the Trojan War, legendary warrior Achilles makes Briseis his captive after rescuing her during the raid of her village. It would make sense for Briseis to hate him, but after Achilles makes love to her, she is his very willing slave. It's obvious to everyone around the pair that Achilles returns her feelings. The two make sparks fly off the page. Eventually, his superior officer demands to have Briseis for himself. Although she is literally torn from Achilles' arms, Briseis never stops loving him. The horrors of war and captivity take their toll on her life, but they only serve to make Briseis stronger. The emotional ending had me literally turning the pages as fast as I could.
This is a highly erotic version of the legendary lovers' tale, written in a very unique style. Ms. Rose's story is steeped in sensuality, yet the sex is not all that graphic and very few explicit words are used. The ancient Greek setting is very refreshing and written so that the reader feels like part of the action. Many of the secondary characters are well known, like Helen of Troy and Odysseus. All are three dimensional and well developed. All of these factors combine to make an excellent read. I'm looking forward to more stories of 'Legendary Passion' from Jackie Rose.
If movies like Gladiator and Troy make your heart beat faster - run, don't walk - to buy Warrior's Captive. I know you will enjoy this very sexy saga as much as I did!
