Tess O'Malley loved Jack McCready but he left Serenity eight years ago. He left when a scandal involving him exploded. He broke Tess' heart in the process. Tess and Jack are two very human and normal characters with problems they must deal with. Tess thought she had finally gotten past her feelings for Jack. She had made a life for herself in Serenity but old feelings resurface when she meets Jack again. Jack is tormented by his feelings for Tess. He wants her in every way but he is engaged to be married. They have both tried to move on with their lives but emotions flare up even hotter when they meet again. These two protagonists try their best to fight their attraction but the reader knows they are doomed to fail. The erotic tension is very high between these two; it is too difficult to resist and pulls them back together.
