Noa has chosen Riordan to be her ahavatara. They make love and yet she finds herself alone in bed when she wakes. Riordan tells her their night together was a mistake. Riordan is propositioned by a young girl, Solveig and he turns her down. She tries to blackmail him but that doesn't work either. After this incident, Riordan realizes his future is with Noa. When Riordan chooses Noa, Solveig promises revenge.
This was a sequel to an earlier book and unfortunately, this reviewer did not read it. This novella was only 63 pages long and the author did not provide in-depth explanations of the society/characters though this may have been done in the earlier book. Noa and Riordan are likable characters. The introduction of Solveig throws a wrench into Noa and Riordan's relationship. Their bond is tested and they come out stronger for it. The characters of Caylen and Gabriana play an important part in the storyline. They are featured prominently in the book. Their relationship is quite sweet and touching. There are plenty of sexual scenes and they are in keeping with the characters' storyline.
Trial by Fire is an erotic fantasy with magic, romance, intrigue and a heavy helping of sexual action. This reader would recommend you read the first book in the series as it may make this one easier to follow.
