Beauty Queen

Rebecca Lear's life could currently be described as a disaster. Her husband left her for another woman, her son would rather be with his nanny than her, and she needs to find something to do with her life that will bring the real Rebecca back. After a grueling "Transformation" seminar in the mountains and the guidance of some self-help books, Rebecca determines she needs a job. Only what kind of job is a former beauty queen qualified for? Fate intervenes and she is offered the opportunity to be part of Tom Master's election campaign.

Matt Parrish is not sure if he wants to be involved in politics, but Tom is an old fraternity brother and makes him an offer he can't outright refuse. Matt joins the campaign thinking platforms, statistics, and past experiences are the way to get Tom elected. If this is true, he can't help but wonder why Rebecca has been offered a place in the campaign. Her political experience is non-existent and the ideas she comes up with are unorthodox in today's political arena. However, as much as he may not like her methods, she is getting results; plus she is anything but an eyesore around the office. Matt and Rebecca may not see eye-to-eye when it comes to politics, but neither of them can deny that there is something that draws them together. With all the events going on with the campaign, can they find some common ground and create something more meaningful than campaign slogans?

Beauty Queen is a delightful read. The book offers a montage of characters that had this reader laughing out loud. While Rebecca will draw you in initially with her desire to create something of herself, the story keeps you immersed with witty dialogue, humorous situations, and characters that are true to life. The developing bond between Matt and Rebecca is filled with all the self-doubts, frustrations, joys, and passion of new relationships. They were a truly enjoyable couple to watch. Their friends and families added to their story in a very unique and personal manner. Julia London proves that although the journey to self-discovery may not always be easy, you can still have fun along the way.
