Mind Killer
The Earth of the future has learned many things from its past, but there are still humans that work against humanity for their own gain. Tamia Kuan is a member of an elite Commando group that strives to maintain the balance of right and wrong. She has found salvation, sanity, and purpose within the group. The team is assigned what appears to be a very straightforward mission. However, the leads and clues in the case draw the members of the team deeper and deeper into a labyrinth of madness and deceit. Somewhere, somehow, there is someone with a very hidden agenda that is working against the team. The demands of the mission force Tamia to face her past as well as the very present evil conspiring against them.
While trying to solve the riddle of the clues and misleads in the case, Tamia must acknowledge the changing dynamics of her relationship with Richard "Rick" Carinson. Tamia is a soldier, but she is also a woman with all the needs and desires of a woman. Rick is her commanding officer as well as her lover. Over time, he has taken over what remains of her heart. An injury during her last mission, dealt them a blow they are not sure they can recover from. The demands of their current mission reinforce that they both have desires outside the life of a Commando. Yet, to give in to their dreams is strictly forbidden. Will the present danger force them to give up on the future when it is offered? Or can Tamia and Rick find a way to have it all even as they fight to stop the growing threat against humanity?
Esther Mitchell has created a story that is an excellent example of right triumphing against evil despite the odds. She has embodied her characters with real emotions as well as fears and human flaws. The Commandos may divert evil when they can, but they pay a price for their heroism. Esther does an outstanding job capturing the turmoil and love between Tamia and Rick as they work against time to stop a mad scheme and create a future together. The action and details within Mind Killer kept me immersed in the story until the very end. This reader can only hope there will another addition to Tamia and Rick's story and the Commandos' fight to divert a war.
