Aunts and the Dove
A false child abuse child report brought David back into Anna's life. Her sister Carmen had accidentally morphed herself into a chair and couldn't get herself back into her 'base form'. Anna's nephew Sammy had been in a serious skateboarding accident and she was exhausted from being at the hospital with him all night. Finding David in her office had shocked her. What shocked her even more was her instantaneous response to him. For one brief instant, Anna lost her head, she all but jumped David in her office. When sanity returned, Anna learned that David was there as a DCFS officer to investigate her on charges of neglect and abuse; Anna was mortified and humiliated.
It doesn't take long for David to learn that the charges are false and Anna did nothing wrong. One of the members of the hospital staff had it in for Anna and all those like her. She was going to lose her job over this and there was nothing anybody could do about it. They hadn't seen each other in years and David's asking her to marry him. David now speaks of them being bashert, the Jewish word for soul mate. In the ways of their Clan they are also Destined. In short, when they achieved Unity to save her sister, in the eyes of their religion and in the eyes of their Clan, they were already married.
There was so much going on around them. A wedding to plan, the school board making good on their threat to fire Anna, and now there was a new threat against them. A soul eater has come to town, the soul eaters where the Clan's worst enemy. Unsure of what he was doing there, they watched and waited as they were being watched. David and Anna are just trying to finally build a life together, after so many years of being kept apart. Now that they have finally found each other again, will Anna and David finally have the chance to love one another.
Aunts and the Dove is one of the most sensual and spiritual stories I have ever read. Cassie Walder draws readers into her stories with flawless details and descriptions of a world you might not know about, but are suddenly curious to know. Her depiction of the Jewish religion is educational and attention grabbing, yet far from preachy. Through Cassie Walder's words, I wanted to know more. I was completely engrossed in this book. I look forward to my next books of Cassie's!
