IN BLACK is Ms. Hill's latest installment of her Ancient Blood series. Ivy never expected to find her soul mate this early in her existence. She never expected him to be human either. Jacob's black voice draws her in though and won't let her go.
Jacob was raised to be one of the deadliest killers for the group only known as "We Who Serve Humanity." Very few vampires escape his ability to recognize them as one. This ability makes him one of the greatest assets of the group. His refusal to kill makes him their greatest enemy, second only to the race they have sworn to eradicate.
A vampire saved Jacob from his death sentence and he now lives the life of an actor. It is a life he loves. When he meets Ivy, he knows that he will be given a chance to learn more about the world of the vampire.
Ivy cannot help her enthrallment with Jacob and agrees to meet him for New Year's and the day after. He has plays scheduled both nights, and cannot meet with her until after, but she agrees to attend the plays both nights as she has fallen in love with him and his beautiful voice.
Ms. Hill's haunting voice through this story was the perfect complement to it. At times it feels like you're moving through a dream world, where only Jacob and Ivy exist. With the plot of Ivy's enchantment by Jacob's voice, Ms. Hill hit the perfect note. Both Ivy and Jacob are intriguing characters, and I wish we could have seen more of them. Hopefully we will in future stories.
Ms. Hill beautifully draws the lushly sensual worlds of the theater and vampires. This story is but a small taste of her ongoing saga, and it is recommend that you check out the other books in the series.
