Garden of Desire
A former pirate, Cantor Marlowe is now the Governor of a new settlement on a previously uninhabited, but lushly landscaped planet. Much like Australia of the 1800s, the colony is being populated with pirates and female ex-cons. At the moment, the female to male ratio is too high. The pirates, especially Cantor, have women coming out of the woodwork.
Possessing the looks of an Adonis in addition to being the Governor, Cantor is the most pursued male in the colony. His most ardent suitor is lovely, former thief Martha. Though Cantor enjoys her talents in bed, he feels smothered by her attention. Martha, on the other hand, truly loves Cantor and is desperate to win his heart in any way possible.
When a beautiful harem girl named Fagwaht arrives on the planet, Cantor is immediately attracted to her. When Martha observes Cantor's very apparent attraction to Fagwaht, she fears her chance with him is lost. After being assigned to help Fagwaht settle in, Martha comes up with an idea to use Cantor's desire for the luscious harem girl to get him for herself.
Though barely of age and still a virgin, Fagwaht is very anxious to learn how to please a man. She agrees to team up with Martha to seduce Cantor. What follows are a series of the most scorchingly hot sexual encounters on paper. Eventually, Cantor realizes that being in love doesn't necessarily mean not having breathing room.
Garden of Desire is an extremely well written, highly erotic romp. Ms. Devlin is obviously a top-notch writer. The emotions Martha goes through as she struggles with her desire to be with Cantor are palpable. The moment when she feels like all hope for a life with him is lost is quite touching. The reader is completely immersed in the story. It's a rare piece of erotica that can stir up so many heartfelt emotions and have you squirming in your seat at the same time!
The colorful secondary characters are fully fleshed out and really add to the story rather than just being background. Even though it's technically a futuristic, it reads like a charming historical, which makes it stand out among so many with the same old themes. The only flaw in this otherwise perfect story is Fagwaht, at 17 years old, is referred to time and again as "baby girl." It was a bit disconcerting to this reviewer and distracted from the rest of the wonderfully written story.
Looking for a highly entertaining, ultra-erotic read? Garden of Desire definitely fits the bill!
