Hannah has escaped from her world. She was shunned and persecuted there. She has found some semblance of peace now. She runs a club and is doing fairly well. However, one of the Elders has arrived to return her to their world. She has "upset" the balance between the two worlds by leaving. Hannah puts up a fight and Adam McGreggor arrests the man who was assaulting her. She doesn't want to press charges or call the police but it is too late. Adam is the Sheriff. Thus begins a complex story of how, why, and who Hannah is.
Hannah is a very strong heroine. She is a survivor who has suffered emotionally and physically. Adam is a terrific hero. He has all the characteristics of an ideal man. He is understanding, strong, loyal and intelligent. These two characters complement and support one another from beginning to the end. There are many strong secondary characters from Adam's friends to the mysterious Gnaegi. They fulfill their purpose of driving the storyline forward.
This book had a fairly complex storyline. The author has created a world within a world. There is "our" reality and then there is another world that can be reached via portals place around the world. This "parallel" world is quite interesting and the author has supplied enough information for the reader to envision it. If you are game for a paranormal romance book, this one would fit the bill.
