She has suffered all these years trying her best to support her daughter and herself. She has had to prostitute herself for money. Slayer has returned. He is the future ruler of Tern Terra, Land of the Carnivores. They are shapeshifters. After all these years, he has been unable to remove Ayanni from his mind and his heart. The discovery that she has not mated with another sends him flying back to her. Unfortunately, Ayanni's years of suffering has hardened her heart against him.
Ayanni is a very strong heroine. She is tough and a survivor. She has done whatever she needs to in order to provide for her daughter and herself. Slayer feels Ayanni's pain and tries to do what he can to alleviate it. He tries to redeem himself in her eyes since he wants her for his mate. Wynter, their daughter is truly the product of her parents. She was raised with love and has a very strong personality. Wynter's relationship with Totter was an added plus to the book. Although Ayanni and Slayer are at the forefront of this story, the author has also included various subplots involving Slayer's complex familial relationships.
This is the third book in this series. The reviewer did not read the first two. The author provides enough background information about the principal characters and their past relationships so a new reader should not get lost in the storyline.
