Zylar's Moons 2 : Selven Refuge

Mica, High Priest of Zylar is a frustrated man. He has been waiting for years to claim his life companion and link mate, Tala. Tala is not being helpful as she has always been a bit rebellious. She has known for a long time that he was the only man for her, but is more than peeved that Mica has never mentioned it. She has decided to join the Selven and have the internal links removed. Mica will not let her do it. Once the links are removed, she will be lost to him forever. Tala is almost done with her training but there are a few more steps before she is officially one of the Selven. One of Mica's jobs as High Priest is to initiate the Selven priestesses and train them in sexual pleasure. Tala is not pleased with that bit of information. The last thing she wants is to have sex with Mica and the thought of him having sex with other women is not pleasant either! However, Mica has already been invading her dreams at night. He hoped to bring them closer and thus make the "claiming" process easier.

Tala is not a submissive female. She is a feisty heroine who wants to take charge of her life. She dislikes the Zylan society's treatment of women. Mica is an Alpha male; although he did show empathy for the plight of Zylan females. He also held off on claiming Tala until she was older and more mature. He knew she was his mate when she was only twelve. Unfortunately, it doesn't help his "claiming" when Tala realizes that he has been "servicing" other women all this time. Of course, Mica sees nothing wrong with it as he was just doing his job. It is to the author's credit that Mica and Tala's relationship works. She is able to pull the reader into this story and makes us care for these characters. They are two very strong and stubborn personalities. They will argue and fight but the reader knows it will work out in the end. The sexual tension and action is very high and quite graphic.

This is book two in this series. The earlier book dealt with Nyssa and Tar's relationship. The author has provided a vocabulary list at the end of the book to help with the new words. This was a very quick read for the reviewer. It grabbed my interest from the beginning and didn't let go until the end. The author has expanded and added new information regarding the Zylan society and the inhabitants. This reviewer looks forward to the next book in this series.
