Again The Magic

Lady Aline Marsden knew she had to marry well, if only because her father said she must. But knowing it and actually forsaking her love for McKenna, one of the stable boys was another thing she wasn't sure she could do. Eventually McKenna and Lady Aline crossed the boundaries and her father sent McKenna away. To ensure McKenna did not suffer for her lack of discretion Aline made a bargain with her father to provide McKenna some means of survival and in return Aline would do whatever her father deemed appropriate. But Aline knew the only way McKenna would leave her was if he believed that she no longer loved him. So she did what she felt she must, she turned McKenna away, scornfully and stoically, ensuring he would leave her and never look back.

Now he's back and they both know why…revenge. Lady Aline sent McKenna away even though they had professed to love each other no matter what happened. McKenna has never forgotten the way that Lady Aline scornfully turned him away; he has lived for the day to pay her back in kind for what she did. Even successful and thriving in his wealth, McKenna has never forgotten Lady Aline.

From start to finish this reviewer was impressed with this book. Lisa Kleypas has outdone herself with this story. The characters are vivid in detail; you can reach out and touch them. The story line is written in such a way as to make each and every detail a living thing. From page one the reader is lost in the story of Aline and McKenna. Ms. Kleypas seamlessly pulls you into Lady Aline and the reader identifies with her from beginning to end; you feel her pain, you know her heartbreak and you know she does what she does for the benefit of the man she loves. That alone wrenches your heart.

Ms. Kleypas also puts you in McKenna's shoes. You feel his pain as well as his determination to make Aline pay for the heartbreak she caused him. You know his suffering from knowing his love was not returned; then you realize his determination created the core of steel and ice around his heart that allowed him to be the success he is and you pray it thaws for her. How could you not love that?

One of the things that stood out in this book for this reviewer was how Ms. Kleypas told the story. You had the opportunity to identify with both young characters in the beginning. Then she gave you the same characters only after time had passed, basically the same but so different with a more mature outlook on each character.

This reviewer absolutely loved this book. If you haven't gotten it already, the best money you will spend this year will be spent on purchasing this book. This reviewer has read this book a total of four times and will probably read it even more as the year passes because it's a keeper folks.
