BlackWind
Bronnie and Sean are two teenagers in love that no one wants together. Bronnie's parents don't think that Sean is good enough for her and Sean's father doesn't think he is good enough period. All of Sean's life he's had to fend off his father's blows. He learned quickly not to attempt to defend or to protect his mother; if he did his punishment was that much worse. Bronnie's parents go as far as to try and bribe him with money to get him out of her life. When that doesn't work, they resort to threats…stay away from their daughter or they will have him thrown in jail.
For a time they try to stay away from each other. Not speaking, not touching, is a fate almost worse than death. Then Bronnie's cousin and some of his friends horribly beat Sean; it seems they don't think he's good enough for her either. With Sean hurt, Bronnie risks the wrath of her parents to go to him. Unwisely they meet and become lovers. It isn't long before someone spots them and informs her parents. Even though it is known that they were together, they keep what they shared a secret. When Bronnie's parents whisk her away to a boarding school in Scotland in the dead of night, neither feels their situation could get much worse. However, these young lovers are about to discover that their lives can get worse…much, much worse.
WOW! It has been a while since a book has held me as utterly captivated as BlackWind managed to do. Charlotte Boyett-Compo has written an outstanding love story that time and time again has enormous obstacles for these lovers to overcome, but nevertheless their love withstands the test of time. The twists and turns in this story will leave readers astonished and the very plot itself is remarkable and simply amazing. There were moments while reading BlackWind that I felt that this story was so real; Charlotte Boyett-Compo doesn't just write her characters true to life, she brings them to life. The pain and sorrow that Sean and Bronnie experience together as well as separately brought tears to my eyes on numerous occasions. With Charlotte Boyett-Compo readers have no choice but to feel what she has written, her words are that powerful and that strong. I'm a fairly new reader of Charlotte Boyett-Compo and what I've read to date, I've never been disappointed. I don't have the words to describe how much I enjoyed this book and if I could I'd give it ten angels! Simply put BlackWind and Charlotte Boyett-Compo are absolutely brilliant!
